For our 4th anniversary dinner the Misses wanted ribs. So we got my Mom to keep little Whammie tonight (his first night away).

Whipped up some corn muffins and washing it down with a freezer pour of 4RYL. Helluva nice evening for some porch sittin' while listening to Town Mountain.

Soccer tonight as I am winding down my officiating career.  Playing, coaching, officiating.  I am just ready to move on to other things.  No more college or high school.  I am undecided on how much longer I should screw up youth games.  I have ruined so many young athlete's opportunities to dominate college, MLS and the World Cup. Have I no shame?

Anyway, my friends often say I am wild and I know I am a turkey.  I always give a 101 percent effort so you know where this is leading.  I am drinking KC9 100 proof.  Just kidding, I am drinking WT101.  A solid bourbon for any occasion.  Even when watching the NFL draft.  The only thing more boring is this post.

First pour, more of the Evan Williams 02 single barrel.  Great low proof mellow pour for warming up the palate

I've been thinking about some old Turkey all evening.  I debated about opening up an older Rare Breed, but instead I landed on one of my favorite open bottles, it's basically a honey barrel Kentucky Spirit from 2007, warehouse B.

I've killed a few '07 WTKS bottles before but this one is definitely the best one from that year that I've had.   It has a decent amount of that funky note that just stays on the palate for several minutes after the finish.  Addictive.

Sounds like a real treat.  Enjoy!

The 07 WTKS tasted so great that I just had to follow that up with a pour from another KS bottle, a dark brown top 2006 warehouse D.

Everything about this pour is sublime, from the nose to the finish.  Although the finish doesn't last as long as the 2007 whse B honey barrel, the nose and palate are noticeably more intense.  If I'm comparing the two, I'd say the 06 'D' has much more dusty turkey funk, but not as much caramel & butterscotch as the warehouse B 2007.

I fancy this 06 more than the 07 honey barrel B because it's my only bottle from that vintage and definitely the most unique of all my Kentucky Spirit collection.  And I'm guessing I have about 15 different KS fantails from different single barrels.  This one is like a link to the past dusty WT era that I missed out on.

FRYL from the freezer while cooking up some 85/15 ground sirloin burgers.  Almost emptied the "refill" handle handle of FRYL, too. time to break out another from The Bunker, just in case.  😊

And raising a toast to all my brothers and sisters at the SB.com National Convention in the Motherland tonite.  Wish I was there - ever been to an 8 year old granddaughter's

birthday party with 20 other 8 year olds (and a few 4-2 year siblings)?  Especially after cake and other chocolate desserts.     🥳

After a VERY long absence from our shelves WTRB finally reappeared today although in limited quantities. I picked up 2 at my local and immediately cracked one open and am thrilled that the quality is still there. I perused the Total Wine website to see if more was available and one store had 3 so I web ordered those and will pick them up Monday morning. Kind of crazy that I now have to chase Rare Breed but at least I'm restocked.

It’s such a solid, solid, whiskey.

I recently put it on my to-do list to pick up a couple myself, so I would be assured to have one for Thanksgiving.  It’s my Turkey pour for the Holiday, but recent years droughts have made it a tough enough find during my Thanksgiving shopping, to cause me too much angst.

OF 1920 at the moment. Had a few ounces of some local distillate called Driftless Glen earlier at my sister's birthday celebration.

Yes! It is also my Turkey day pour. We are INDEED brothers. So happy to have this back in the rotation.

Not being a smart ass @Anwalt,  just answering your question honestly. I retired last September. That private selection OWA was a very gracious retirement gift from a fellow member here. And as I stated above, it is delicious. :P I’ve had a crap ton of Weller’s in my time. 😉 A fair number have been private selections. FWIW, the 2007 WLW is pretty much my all time favorite Weller. IMHO, this ps OWA ranks right up there alongside the 2007 WLW. 😲

Joe, I was absolutely being a smart-ass, hopefully in the manner intended, all rib-pokey-like.  I appreciate the explanation.  It is nice to have good & gracious colleagues, especially those who know you well enough to pick such a nice gift.  Judging from your eternal closing quote, your likes are rather well known!

I tried my first Weller a few weeks ago in Ohio.  The SR, FP, and CYPB, all regular versions.  I can see why so many people like them.  Managed to pick a fair number of the SR's, one A107, and one FP.  I look forward to trying them out.  Just another influence from this site and its denizens.

It’s all good @Anwalt. I know you were razzing me. Yes, I love Weller’s. I am the self professed Weller Whore of SB. Wish I’d have been with you when you scored all the Weller SR in Ohio. Weller SR is pretty hard to find here in northern Illinois. Bottles hardly ever see the light of day. If I do see one, it’s usually at tater stores that charge near $100.00 a bottle. The timing of this is kinda funny in a way. My son called me yesterday. He’s looking for a bottle for a business colleague that lives out of state. I hooked him up one other time with a bottle for his friend. Can’t do it this time ‘cause I only have three bottles left. Looks like we might be taking a drive this afternoon. 🙄
