My wife loves to cook with wine. Sometimes she even uses it in the food.

Believe it or not, I used to have double what this holds...

...but as I said earlier, it's quality not quantity that matters.

OK, sorry this took so long, just need to have the time to take pictures and develop them.

Because of the space limitations (you will see) I had to use my Cannon with the 16-35mm zoom to keep from having 50 photos.

The first images are the entry way to the cellar, the side walls (left and right) of the cave, the open door into the caller, back onto the wine glass rack and staging area for the wine.

What you are looking at is an entry way that use to be a double door (never looked right to me) that I converted into a hallway.

The caller is made up of part of the laundry room that was dead (at least in my mine) space that was not useful and extra space my wife let me swipe from her painting office.

When she went on business travel (I got her OK ahead of time, just did not give her all the details) I gutted the area up to the roof, pulled the insulation; stripped in bare. By the time she got back 3 days later it was all framed in, insulated, moisture protected and dry walled.

I then covered it in chicken wire for stucco and started the wood work.

All the wood work is Purple Heart. The Doors, the shelves, the wine rack, the door frames, the stops... everything. I went looking for doors I wanted for this little exercise and the prices were crazy... A Purple Heart exterior door like that would be $5K... I have 10% of that into it and I got the wood for the door frames, the stops, the bottom step, etc...

There are two doors; the second is also Purple Heart going into my wife’s painting office. For a "G", I got all of the wood you will see in the pictures less the bourbon shelves (next post).

After I spent a week building the doors and the rest, I hung them and then stuccoed the hall portion of the cave and the cellar itself.

The stucco is the only part I did not do. I started, but I found some guys in the new neighborhood I am in that were doing a home and the price they gave me was too sweet not to have then do it… and I hate doing stucco.

So, in short, we bought a new home, in the 3rd month I gutted two halves of two rooms, framed in new walls, new wiring, insulated, water proofed, stuccoed and added a cellar... this is what happens when you leave a carpenter alone with spare time... my wife does not mind that I travel so much now

Now what you are looking at is the back and side parts of the wine cellar. I think I have about 50 cases of wine total. 15 years worth of buying and drinking.

About 2 yrs ago I ran out of space in the kitchen island that we have for my bourbon storage… and my wife said “don’t you have a booze room… put them in there†… so I cut in some purple hear shelves and bourbon staging

All that Purple hears was a few Benjamins, but well worth it to keep the same look throughout.

So now I have a Wine / Bourbon Cellar… and it rocks. The top tow shelves are two bottles deep. You can see I took a picture of the first row and then pulled them for the back row shot.

The one image shows all my backups. Not quite as deep as many of the gurus here, but I have the plenty of the ones I really like…

That third to last image of the two wine bottles is, on the left, the standard 750 ml wine bottle, the one on the right is 27 litters, or holds 36 standard bottles.

That one is for my retirement of if I make VP, or at my funeral when I kick the can.. any of those ways will be one hell of a party for my closest 50 wine drinking buddies (or 20 of the real hard core ones )

SO all in all, there is no way in hell I could have afforded this if I did not build it all myself. Put those trade skills to good work to support my other hobbies…

The final two images are two cork boards I made from wine corks I cut in half and made a map of the US and a map of the world. Each pin represents places my wife and I have been together. It is kind of cool to see where we have been in life

I am in Virginia. Wine is held at 55F and 60% Humidity. Capacity is 3200 bottles.

Will post pics soon. I've bought so much stuff in the last 2 or 3 months, it's getting hard to keep track of everything. Gonna have to make a couple of lists. One for what I'd like to get, and one for what I have. I'm also gonna have to rearrange my liquor cabinet. Joe
