Last night I started with Lot B (bottle getting pretty low) and then moved on to VSOF.

I've had 10 "dry" days at work and hit the gym every day whilst there. I felt I'd earned a drink on my 1st of 5 days off...

What, I ask you, could be finer than a freshly opened bottle of Pappy 20?

Well nothing springs into mind either! It is sublime and every bit as good as I remembered. In fact it's not merely sublime, it's perfection!

I sometimes wonder if RHF, Pappy 20, WT 12 and the rest of my faves can really be as good as I remember after a time away. Well glad to report I'm back with a drink and it's up to the mark - and then some.

Cheers folks!

Last night, I had a couple pours of Michter's American Whiskey, very tasty stuff.

Dinner out this evening, Inlaw wedding anniversary. The bar has ( or had 0 one of the better bourbon selections around. Looking forward to Old Charter PR, and RR101. Thye used to have Blanton's and Booker's. Sipping on a Lot B waiting on the wife to get ready.

I just got back from a very late super. I had a pre-dinner drink of standard Jameson's on the rocks. I must say it had more pot still character than I had remembered. I'll have to pick up a fifth the next time I go shopping. Perhaps do a side by side with Powers Gold label.

My Father-In -Law gave me a bottle of Jameson a couple of weeks ago.

He has had it for years, from when they lived in Maryland. It has the MD tax stamp on it.

While I find it does not compare to my favorite Irish, Tyrconnell, it does have it's place. I think it would be an excellent party pour on the rocks, and a good pre-dinner drink.

I am sipping some now and the tail has a hint of kiwi fruit/pear, now that is very nice.

(Note to Me; party on)

Right now, Red Breast. Next, either more of the same or some Talisker 10. Don't have either bottle at my house, so I'm enjoying what I can get at a favorite pub. May conclude my evening with a Booker's or Knob Creek at home if I get my work projects done here.

Started with Bulleit Frontier, followed by OF100. Both provide a lasting and satisfying finish to me.

Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey. I must say, it is mighty fine stuff. Don't see near any talk of it around here, and that's a shame. All I can say is it has a very nice, 'light' character to it. Think white pine and subdued but unmistakable cinnamon.

When in Colorado, seek out and grab a bottle or two.

Picked up a bottle of Stranahan's last weekend in Denver - Batch #7.

What batch # is yours?

I think this is one of the nicer "presentations" out there right now - for some reason I really like the silver cap even though it's completely useless.

FYI - Binny's (Chicago) is now stocking Stranahan's - although it's priced slightly higher ($59.99) than you'll find in Colorado ($54.99), the difference is less than airfare or gas from Texas to pick it up in person  .

Looking forward to popping the cork on this one.

I'm starting out with '06 ER17, and I'm thinking of pouring some Buffalo Trace as a followup.

Pops, it's a great looking, and from what I've seen, distinct bottle. And yeah, I've never trusted the cap shotglass to try it. If I knew it was stainless, then maybe, but since I don't, then I don't want to chance monkeying with an unknown metal that might affect the flavor. Still, it does look quite nice.

Also, I like the label and the cork. It is just one dashing package, indeed. And it doesn't hurt any that the contents inside ain't too shabby either. :drinking:

That's great to hear that it's finallly available outside of CO, even if only at one source so far. I got my bottle, from batch #4, back in late September during my visit to the Great American Beer Festival in Denver (a man cannot live by whiskey alone ;) ). I've been hoarding the last half of my bottle forever. I just need to get my butt either back to CO or up to Binnys already.

Do let us know what you think of it, once you crack yours open. There hasn't been a lot of talk around here about it, at all, and I'm very interested in others comments on this one.

But back on topic; tonight it's Manhattans for me, made with vintage 1980 bottled Benchmark. I do like cherries in my Manhattans, and I've even gone so far as to break out some Hershey's dark chocolate tonight. The combination is terrific.

This Benchmark has been a pretty satisfying pour for me the past couple of weeks, and it mixes well too. I don't have any more of this bottling on hand, but I do have a single barrel Benchmark which I'll be opening soon to compare.

Had a homebrewed APA to start things off. Now on to Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA...pure hop candy.

I'll have a whiskey next. I think Weller 107 sounds about right.

Heh heh, I know what you mean. Thank God I grabbed that 12er of Michelob, or else I'd have nothing I could just reach for without second guessing it. I got a whole fridge full of beer, and it's a lengthy, drawn out process of elimination exercise everytime.

Well, I returned home from the pool hall eager to pop an OF BIB decanter but after cutting the tax strip the cork ripped in two much to my dismay. Being too late to deal with that I sealed it off with a piece of seran wrap and a small rubber band and then “settled†for a pour of Fall 2005 GTS. :) No matter how cold it is in the house this stuff always feels hot (not spicy, really warm) in my mouth... and tastes damn good.

I can't believe you opened a 120! I'm saving mine for 2015, or so. ;)

Are the 120's hard to come by in your neck of the woods?? I have about 15 in my beer cellar and I know of a couple of stores that have a good amount still. PM me if you need to get some. I also have access to '05 & '06 World Wide Stout's, and Raison d'Extra's.

P.S. I also can get ALL the SouthHampton beers. I must have 30 750's myself aging and my local store's stock all them. PM me if you need help.

When in Kentucky I did drink both the bottle and on tap. I wasn’t that impressed of the bottle but on tap in a bar on Bardstown road Louisville it was fantastic.

Tonight it's OGD 114.

Spicey and just the proof I'm in the mood for. Not a regular for me but it's doing the trick just fine.

I may crack open a bottle of VG later for a change in proof. I kinda like the liqueur style finish that the Fox delivers - very smooth, crisp and clean but with a "hard to put my finger on it" quality I really like. (Does that last bit even make sense?)

Oh to Hell with it. I'm having a wee nip of VG in a minute - I've just talked myself into it!

Thanks for the offer Joe! How much do those run in your area? My financial situation right now is a bit bleak, but that should change soon enough, and maybe I can take you up on your offer.

But yeah, the 120s don't make it to the shelves here. We got one shipment it seems, back in 05, and that was that. And I would have never known we got it except for the fact that the beer guy at this grocery store was super cool and brought it from the back. They couldn't really stock it because of the alcohol content, but they somehow had got a case of it. Or maybe they were just hoarding it, I don't really know.

As for the WWStout and the Raison D'Extra, those are both fantastic. We do get the Raison D'Extra, but I think we've run out. We've never got the WWStout, and that should be a crime. That stuff is bottled euphoria.

I've never heard of Southampton beers, so I'll look into that. If you have any links, that would be appreciated.

I started out with a couple of Red Hooks - one with Wiser's 10yo and the other with Jim Beam Rye. I found the JB version better balanced; Punt e Mes tends to overpower Wiser's.

Now I'm sipping a pour of ER17, and I'll be finishing off the last pour of it tonight as well.
