ggilbertva
I'm drinking Old Pogue tonight. It's taken a back seat to Lot B for some months now so I decided it was time to open the bottle back up. Glad I did, I forgot how smooth it is. bluesbassdad
Lately I've been marking most messages as read without reading them. I regret that I missed yours by so doing. Please tell your son I thank him for his service.Tim's right; only WT Tribute is an appropriate toast. However, the closest I can come to that is WT 12 y/o. Tonight I will raise a glass to your son.Yours truly,Dave Morefield
JDutton
Had a couple of Manhattans made with Old Overholt, finishing the bottle, and completed the evening with a small pour each of Lot B and Pappy 15. A very nice evening.
CrispyCritter
I decided to revisit my Fleischmann's Rye tonight... and I still wish they'd sell it in the Chicago area! At least it'll give me an excuse to vacation in Wisconsin this summer. Next up? Hmmmm, I think I'll follow up with Baby Saz, then maybe a pour of Handy. JeffRenner
Beam Green Label (Jim Beam's Choice). Curiosity got me and I bought a 750 this afternoon. Its 5 yr/80 proof whiskey; White Label aged an extra two years if I'm not mistaken.Actually, it's just one year older than the white label, which is four years old.Jeff
JeffRenner
A preprandial tot of late ND Old Crow - a liter (bottle dated '89) I picked up in LA in December from a shop in Tarzana a few blocks from the hospital where our brand new granddaughter :woohoo: was born. The clerk didn't speak any useful English at all. There was a chair in front of the bottom shelf which blocked the view entirely, and when I asked him to move it, he didn't understand. All my pointing got me was an unwanted bottle near the chair. So with gestures, I finally was allowed behind the counter to move the chair, and there was this bottle. Not exactly a tax-strip dusty bottle, but a good 'un none-the-less. I am really enjoying this. 80 proof with a splash to take it down to my preferred drinking strength of ~70 proof (I know, I'm a wimp ). Wow! I wish the ND distillery hadn't closed. It bears a family resemblance to the ND OGD and Old Taylors I've had in the full caramel, plus a touch of orange and some teaberry/wintergreen. Also some similarity to some dusty Old Forester, which leads me to believe that some of the flavor may come from the old, slow growth oak that has disappeared. At any rate, I will sip the rest of this before getting on with supper. Good thing I'm batchin' it tonight, or I would hear about a late supper from my wife since I'm the cook. darkluna
Last night I enjoyed pours of a single-barrel version of Buffalo Trace from Binnys. I'm not sure if this was a particularly good bottle, or if I was in the right mood, but they were awesome pours. I'll test it tonight to see if it's still as good.... full_proof
Tonight, EC12. I've not had this in awhile and I am thoroughly enjoying the tannin features of this HH dram. Is it my understanding that this particular bottling will no longer be avilable due to the 1996 fire??
SBOmarc
Ok, today was one of those days. I am drinking a Weller '06 with a few drops of water pondering some crap from my day at work. I may move on to something else but at this present time, looking at a nearly full bottle, I may just stay with it.
ggilbertva
Ended up coming home early because of the snow/ice/sleet that's swirling around outside my house. So, I actually started with a nice pour of Dalwhinnie and then moved on to Vintage 17 with a couple drops of water. It may be cold outside but I'm all warm on the inside. TBoner
Eagle Rare 10yr 101.The first time I had this I thought it was so-so. That was a buddy's (Grain Brain's) bottle. Beginning to wonder if he had a bad bottle. It's absolutely terrific.

Virus_Of_Life
Tonight, one small pour of Sazerac Rye 18yr...very good.I too had a pour of Saz18, but not a small one and I have to admit when I first opened this 2006 bottle I was not impressed, at all. It has since grown on me and I like it.Before that was a pour of the ER101 from '79, phenomenol! And then something that has has become a top 10 if not top 5 bourbon for me, and that is Weller Cenntenial from Louisville, I am bordering on thinking of this as better than Pappy... 15 or 20. I love it, think it is awesome! It has an awesome brown sugar caramel creme brulee nose that I find in ORVW15 and a finish that has notes licorice with a touch of anise, tea and fruit that I cannot get enough of! ggilbertva
Early Times Straight Kentucky Bourbon then Blanton's SFTB and now a bit of ETL.EdEdHow do you like the SFTB? I just picked up 3 bottles but haven't opened one yet. Is it similar to Original at a higher proof or is there a noticable taste difference? Gillman
Tonight, my own vatted malt scotch, and a German festbier (7.0% abv, from Holsten). I'm done for the night. Gary
TBoner
OF 86 proof. It's the third pour I've had this week from this half-pint bottled in 1988. The first pour seemed flat to me. Fine bourbon, but nothing spectacular. The second pour two nights later was outstanding, with flavors of orange and tea and cinnamon. Maybe oxygen at work, maybe just my palate. Tonight it seems like a sturdy, subdued version of itself that second pour. A solid pour and an exceptional value, and much better than current bottlings IMO. CrispyCritter
First was an oversized pour of Baby Saz that emptied the bottle, and now there's some Saz 18 in my glass. ER17 is on deck.

Ubertaster
Last night was a rye night. Rittenhouse Rye BIBSaz Jr.Michters 10yr RyeI have drained the Michters about half way and think this is very much comparable to Saz 18. It is becoming my favorite rye.bj
TNbourbon
...I have drained the Michters about half way and think this is very much comparable to Saz 18. It is becoming my favorite rye.bjMy personal position is that the Michter's Single Barrel 10yo IS Saz 18 -- and when I've mentioned it to folks who ought to know, nobody's contradicted me yet.(I don't mean, of course, the same barrels, but the same mashbill from the same distillery at approximately the same age. With "10 Years Old" on the label, it can be anything 'at least' 10.)
