What Bourbon Did You Purchase Today? Winter'07/'08

Against my better judgment a couple of bottles of Hirsch 16 - and based upon too many recommendations to count a bottle of Parkers 122.6.

Where did you pick these up? Haven't seen them at the WA state stores!

Went and picked up a bottle of T.W.Samuels BIB, there were only 4 bottles, so I took the time to check the bottling codes on them, 3 were from 2006 (Lxxx6), but the last one was L0739 (1999). This is nice because it will make it DSP 31 stock

Several things but the best bang for the buck would be the Old Forester Signature for $15.99. Have not opened yet but with a group of the "Michigan Bourbon Hounds" (stole that! Oscar hope you don't mind?) coming by Friday we may have to try the 80's Bonded next to the new Signature.

Hey Tony, I got a bottle of OF Signature last Fall when I went down to The Party Source in KY.

I did not know it was available in MI. Yeah for $15.99 and 100 proof it is well worth it.

It is OK neat, but I liked it better on ice.

I gotta a couple of goodies to bring over Friday.

I love the Willett offerings. Amazing. So, when I saw the thread on some Willett being available in D.C., I had to check it out. Here's what I came home with:

Not what I went shopping for. Buffalo Trace...are u ready???

Experimental Collection: aged 10 yrs in bourbon (new oak) barrel, then 8 yrs in a Chardonnay barrel. $60 for 375 ml. Some pix to follow.

I wasn't familiar with this although there is more info here on SB.com. Was browsing the bourbon aisle for some extra Pappy when the spirits guy took me to the front counter for "something special". He had never had it, so I said I'd buy it and to open it so we could both have a taste.

I'm enjoying it; after researching it here, it's pretty rare. Maybe I'll grab the second bottle, too.

BTW, someone is trying to sell the set of 2 on ebay for $650!!!

The Parker's Heritage Collection (127.4 proof, second batch) finally landed in Denver, so I had to pick up a bottle. Also, I found a recent bottling of Old Fitz BIB, the first one I've seen in the area, and I had to have that one, too.

At lunch I went out and bought a bottle of Weller's Antique 107 Proof. I have never tried any Weller's yet and am very curious what its like.

At home I have just finished my BIB EW White, and loved that stuff for a four year old it was really good IMO. Whiskey is expensive here in TN, and it is under ten dollars..... I also have my VOB 100 and my regular EW. I am hoping the Weller will add a variety.

This afternoon I took some of my Gumball machine profits and bought a Litre of JBB. $21+ change. The tax took it up another $3! I've about settled on JBB as my nightcap/Diet Coke additive. For me JBB is the best combination of taste/smoothness for the buck that I've found; worth the extra $2 compared to White label.

Stopped at Binny's on the way to the dentist (no cavities!!) and grabbed a Pappy 20 to bunker. Saw the 4R Yellow Label for the first time, so I grabbed that, too.

Today at the lower cost store in town I grabbed the last bottle of GTS 07 for the bunker. $52 out the door. The only BTAC I haven't found was the Weller. Maybe I'll get lucky and score one at the pricey store in town. If not maybe the bottle of WT AS will still be there.

I went back to a store I had left stuff at that I figured I'd go pick up the last two of. Of course there was only one of the two left. So I picked it up. As I go to enter it into my database, I notice something I hadn't seen before...well I had another bottle bought at the same store last week, so I dig it out (amazing how fast bottles tend to sink to the bottom of a stack of boxes). Nope the other bottling doesn't say it, but they both carry the same UPC code.

Well, not exactly today, but day before last I finally found a Russell's Reserve Rye after keeping an eye out for it the past week or so. I was a little surprised it was not seen in more establishments at present. However, suppose it is still pretty new to the marketplace.

Took a run up to PA and grabbed some PVW20 for the bunker. I also picked up a bottle of Ezra B. Single Barrel. I've never seen the Ezra B before but I figured at 12 years old for $25 it might be worth checking out.

Finally broke down and took ownership of 2 bottles of BMH 18 Rye today. The last ones I have seen in these parts. The store clerk was nice enough to give me a 10% discount for buying both. I went there intending to buy just one in addition to the last BMH 14 that he had - at least, he had it the last time I visited a few days ago......famous last words, it was gone. So, out of a little frustration at myself, took both the ryes. The clerk said they could 'order' me another BMH 14. I thought to myself, 'yeah right'. I told him to go ahead and check.......who knows, there might be a few here & there hanging around somewhere at the distributor level here in TN. I doubt it though.

picked up some Rittenhouse tonight, along with some M&R vermouth and some bitters, to get me into the manhattan world. Wow, what a nice drink. I wish I had tasted it earlier in my life, it is wonderful.

Parents came back from a trip to the middle east and brought home a bottle of Jack Daniels Silver Select. I have an open bottle of this whiskey and it's really quite good so glad to have another for the bunker.
