callmeox
While out shopping for garden stuff, I cruised by my favorite liquor store and gabbed a bottle of Russels Reserve Rye and tonight it will go head to head with Saz both neat and in a Manhattan. Also, I was surprised to see Sazerac Straight Rye on the shelf here in Ohio since I don't recall it being on the price list this month. I asked the store owner if he special ordered it and he said that the state just sent it to him. Perhaps he's a test store for it since he's got the widest bourbon selection in the area.Proud host of the Lake Erie Rye Whiskey Olympics.
ThomasH
Ohio's special order program must be sputtering. Weller SR dropped 6.00 a bootle in price from last month and now the Saz jr. shows up on a store shelf without warning. Maybe if you put in a word with your store's owner, you could get some Rittenhouse BIB rye too. It is a special order item that is actually at a decent price. Last month, Russells Reserve rye was on the special order list. This month, it is a regular stock item. Maybe thinds are finally looking up for the buckeye state!Thomas

doubleblank
Thanks to a tip from Wade, I did a little shopping on a business trip over to Sabine Pass, TX. It appears East Texas is still a good place for finding good stuff. Here's what I bought and the prices:3 Elmer T Lee's in the BUB for $19.99 each.1 ORVW 10/107 Lawrenceburg for $24.991 Pappy 20 Lawrenceburg for $86.992 Pappy 15's for $40.99 (probably the original release at this price)1 Sazerac 18yo from 2005 for $51.992 VW Family Reserve Rye's "D" bottling for $34.99 each2 Rock Hill Farms "Cheesy Gold Chains" from '97 for $38.99 eachI left lots of things on the shelves too like BTAC's from various vintages. Those old RHF's are one of my favorite whiskies. One store had a collection of over 1200 full, unopened decanters on shelves above the retail stuff. I saw at least a dozen various Old Fitz decanters, Cabin Still, etc etc. Every brand that ever made a decanter was there. The current owner said the previous owner collected them. Next time there I will take some pictures. Per the owner, they are not for sale.Randy
TNbourbon
Randy, having gone shopping with you around Houston and finding some goodies, I can't help but wonder if you think Texas' love for all things Weller hasn't resulted in so many other very fine bottlings to be ignored. Do you know folks, as reputed, who buy only Weller?I'd think someone must buy these other brands, or why would distributors have even put them on store shelves, but apparently not in quantity. And, though I know you've found some older Centennials (thanks for sharing!), in particular, that list doesn't include anything Weller.I would think even simple curiosity would prompt somebody to buy one of these 'oldies' once in a while.
