Had a pour of Old Forester Birthday 2010 earlier this evening, then enjoyed some HH BIB Gold Label. While I like the B-Day, I have to say that HH won this round. Just goes to show that a bigger price tag doesn't always guarantee a better product.

I moved on to a pour of the Early Times 354 Bourbon. I can tell that it's young but I'm getting some caramel and vanilla. I'm also getting some fruity notes that I can't identify.

Overall it's not bad but it will be used as a mixer or cooking.

Well this is interesting. I tasted some DSP-16 OF BiB for the first time tonight (courtesy of a very generous fellow SB'er). It really reminded me of an immature Pappy15; very young black cherry tar that ended up leaving me with bitter off-notes. The highs definitely worth the low finish.

Now I'm dipping into my vatting of Binny's current bottling of WSR and the regular release OWA, a vatting I mentioned here. It actually tastes very very similar to the OF BiB, except the off notes are absent. However, there is a certain texture to the OF, and I'm not talking about body but more like an interior texture that I experience towards the tip of my tongue rather than on the sides or back, that this DSP-16 OF expresses, it's a bit prickily and rough, like the bourbon is made out of larger molecules. Sorry to be so abstruse, but my point is that while the OF bows out on an off note, it retains a character that is beyond this Weller vatting.

Makes me think of yeast, something of which I am quite ignorant.

But anyway, the more I drink of this WSR/OWA, the more I like it!

Tonight I decided to go with the 4R barrel strength 118.8 prf OBSV recipe which has been great. Trying to drop down to something a little less strong, I followed that with a pour of Hi-Time Cellars ETL. That was a mistake on my part. This bottle of ETL just doesn't come close to standing up to the 4R. I think I need to pour something else to make amends for the mistake.

Trying out the JW Dant BIB from 1979. Very nice balanced flavor and good finish. Very satisfied with this find and I like it better neat than the current version.

1792 RR. Tastes nice this evening, better than I remember, just enough finish and spice/tingle on the tongue to make it interesting and take my time between sips.

Having the last pour of what was unearthed from the years after the 96 fire at Heaven Hill. Still unbelievable that a 27 year old bourbon is that smooth...and not smokey. Thanks, again.

Lot B tonight.

Middle of week three of the system switch at work. The train wreck has yet to cease. Slowing down, but there will be pieces to pick up for a long time............

After spending another 101 degree day taking my elderly mother to doctors appointments I am finally home.

Enjoying several pours of Buffalo Trace with A. Fuente Hemingway Perfecto cigar. Life is good as when I got home I found that UPS had delivered another box of Hemingways. These are resting in my Humidor.

Joining you with a pour of 2000. Very good, but would be great at a higher proof. I heard the 2001 is a bit better. Your thoughts?

There is an oxymoron Perth and cold weather you don't even have fall let alone winter. Come to Iowa in the winter I'll show you what cold is. Try negative 25 F wind chill.

Had some Basil Hayden with dinner (home made cheese and tomato pizza with garlic bread) and am enjoying a pour of Red Stag for desert. A nice Aussie Tawney Port is on the cards for later in the evening

Tried the Bulleit 95 Rye for the first time last night but didn't get to linger over it; finished at home with a whiskey smash made with FR Yellow.

Just returned home from a long, but fruitful, biz trip. Diggin' on a couple of pours of a newly purchased bottle of Buffalo Trace. BT continues to put superlative whiskey in this brand. It's even better while listening to the Braves lead by 8, on the radio. :D

After another 101 degree day spent working in the yard I fixed several tall glasses full of crushed ice, ginger and Four Roses Yellow Label and along with a A. Fuente Hemingway Short Story cigar repaired to the porch to cool down.

Now I am enjoying one of my simple pleasures, several pours of AAA 10 y/o.
