I had one of the most taxing days of my life today. I came home and fished a bottle of Wild Turkey 12 Gold Foil out of the bunker. This bottle won't make it thru the night.

No Van Winkle but I'll toast his birthday with some Buffalo Trace.

Since everyone is tipping a hat to Julian, how about this:

I'm drinking current David Nicholson 1843 BIB. The bottom of the bottle has an 09 for production. This must be current HH wheated bourbon. The back label, however, states "Distilled by the Old Fitzgerald Distillery DSP-KY-16.":skep:

This shows how little oversight actually happens with BIB bottling and label approval. If anyone from the TTB is reading this, please follow up with the Luxco company, as there is no way in hell this is SW.

After sweating my ass off playing bocce and drinking beer tonight, went into the bar afterwards for a little something before going home. Choices were MM, Makers 46 and WT101. Went with the 46 and I have to say it hit the spot tonight.

4R OBSQ, Binny's barrel. I got this on clearance, but it's so damn good, I don't believe I'll be able to wait until clearance for next season's crop! Last time I tried 4R was a few years ago. I thought it was interesting, but it was hard for me to grasp. I recall the astringency and that was just something I wasn't used to as a bourbon drinker. My palate has moved miles since then, and this bottle is an absolute delight. I have to admit that I'm a bit overwhelmed... 4R lays everything out, and there are so many choices!

Last night my visiting Dad and I tasted the following vertical at 90 proof:

lot b

Old Fitzgerald 90

phc 2010

My Dad who is a big MM drinker commented on how much the OF smelled like MM. I compared it to MM46, and he was right. Side by side I thought that the MM46 was sweeter and more dessert like...but presented with one or the other blind...I don't think that I could tell them apart. I only mention that here as my Dad's perception was similar to a statement made by bourbonv in another thread.

In a recent vbt I described mm46 as having an herbal note. I would now describe that smell as similiar to that of home made whole wheat bread. That wheat bread smell is coupled with a deep powdery sweetness that I can't put my finger on (almost somewhere around malted milk/maple corn syrup/molasses.)

It is that particuliar smell that the OF90 and MM46 most prominently had in common.

Finished yesterday evening off with a pour of ER 10/90 that's been sitting in the back of my bunker for a long time now. It was one of the bottles that I had before I discovered this site and, like most of those bottles, hasn't been touched as I've been discovering other offerings out there.

I must say that it tasted very good, and it won't be nearly as long before I visit it again.

I got home from work a little while ago, and I'm having a small pour of late 80's Cabin Still. And a big glass of water. Gotta beat all this heat somehow. Joe

Drinking blind samples tonight. I'd tell ya what they were, but I can't.

Wait...I did a shot of AA 86 from the 80s or 90s and another shot of Barton BIB with a beer before dinner.

The AC's cranked and I'm drinking AAA 10yr, ETL, and Weller SR, for no particular reason.

Sat outside after the sun went down and had a couple 4R Yellow with one ice cube. So good in the summertime.

Set out on the front porch after the sun went down with a pour of Beam Devil's Cut along with a La Flor Dominicana Double Legero. That hit the spot. Now I'm inside with some Old Charter 10 y/o.

Haven't tried the Devil's Cut, but the LFD Double Ligero's are maybe my favorite cigar that is somewhat easy to find.

Welcome to the 4R club! If you like the OBSQ from Binnys you might want to try the current LE SB that was just released. A bit pricier, but it is also the OBSQ recipe and it is excellent.

Hmm... So what's the difference between the LE and a Binny's SB? I think the LE is 12-year age stated and I don't remember if Binny's SB has an age on it...?
