Do yourself a favor and let the bottle sit for another 2-3 weeks and see how much better it gets...It's standard practice for me with all wheaters to drink down 2-3oz and set it and forget it for a couple weeks. IMO wheaters benefit from a little oxidation!

I followed up last nights ER 101 with a pour of WTRR 10/101...I like both of these for very different reasons...really wish they were both still available. :(

Enjoyed a pour of EWSB 2001, Blanton's, and GTS (cut to 107 pf) last night after a long week of work.

I had several pours of Fighting Cock 8-year while watching my Carolina Gamecocks barely beat Mississippi State. Last week I took a shot with every touchdown which just about put me under (54-3).

Enjoying an 80's bottling of Old Grand Dad. It has a similar dusty earthy feeling as I also find in AH Hirsch 16

one as spent maybe 25 years in a bottle and the other maybe 20 years in steel tank. Maybe this "maturing" has an effect on taste ?

Also have a Rittenhouse 25yo, thats a delicious dram and one of my favourite american drams

Had two pours going at once to compare them: Weller 12 and WLW 2010. Both great, of course. Added a quarter of an ice cube to the WLW and that opened it up past the heat. Finished half of each, then vatted them together and that'll take me through the next few innings of the ALCS. GO TIGERS!!!

Good Sunday Morning Will.

Looks like I got here first.

I am sipping some Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit from 2002.

Very flavorful.

Top of the morning to you Oscar.

I guess we are both licking our wounds this morning.

I had a FRSB LE2011 as a wake up call now several hours ago.

After being open for about a month it seem to have cooled down a bit. Very enjoyable. In a couple of hours I'll be watching the Lions and I think SF may give me more reason to lick wounds (I hope not).

I didn't think the Lions looked good last week against the Bears - lots of bad route running and overthrows by Stafford. However, that's kind of reassuring because that can be fixed in practice. The personnel is there -

Go Lions!

Just had the FRSB LE2011 myself - I didn't like it at all when I opened it back in June or July, but now I find it delicious. The profile is unlike any other bourbon I've ever had.

I've found (and also have been advised) that a lot of bourbons are good when opened but get better after a while - my question is, how do the guys who pick the barrels know how they'll taste later? Do they take samples and let them sit for a while before tasting?

Just returned from our annual trip to Helen, GA for our Octoberfest getaway. Great weather, great food, great beer, and cheap bourbon. Fighting Cock, Ezra Brooks, and Old Ezra 7 yr 101. Cheap, but very good whiskies. Tonight, it's on to an 04 Stagg.

Rough day for the Lions. For 2 straight games, Stafford has thrown off of his back foot often and he's missed a lot of big plays because of it. Their lack of a ground game doesn't help either. That was a game where they needed to run clock and they couldn't because they couldn't run the ball.

Anyways, on 2 of my last 3 road trips I managed to find spots with Colonel E.H. Taylor on the shelf. I love the balance of this bourbon. I'm also sipping Four Roses Small Batch lately as well as Redemption Rye which is one of my favorites. Sipping some right now to celebrate the Patriots win.

Sipping some Kahn's private selection EC 12yr that is delightful!

Did not know they had an EC 12! Yet another bottle to pick up Thanksgiving day weekend. Toasting the Lions and my man Cornel West tonight with some C & B OWA 107, barrel #49. Sweet even in defeat.

What mix are you using Dave? I have some 09 WLW that I just can't drink no matter what I do to it as it's just hot. Maybe wmixing it with some Lot B would be the ticket. Thanks for the Idea...

PS. I need to work on the smoked salmon...yours was a lot better!

Bob, nothing too scientific. About 75% Lot B and 25% WLW and yes, the WLW is an '09.

The salmon recipe takes some time to perfect, keep at it, or we could work out some sort of trade...

Just got home from work. A short pour of ORVW 10 before I head out. Neat, of course

I was enjoying a 1:1 vatting of OWA and Weller 12. Very sweet and delicious. Then I made the mistake of putting a dash of WLW 2009 into it. No matter how I drink it, this bottle coats my mouth with tannins. It tastes alright, but my mouth really gets messed up from this bottle.

Out of how many? 5 would be great, 10 mediocre and 100 awful.

*5 out of 5, this bottle is hitting a home run!

Old Ezra 7 yr 101. Oh my, how terrific this bourbon can be. I'm just marveling on it's oaky, rich, and full flavor from nose to finish. Magnificent whiskey, that is worth much more than what I pay for it. I've said it many times here, but it's worth repeating; this is what Wild Turkey 101, should be, IMO.

Tonight I am enjoying several pours of 4 Roses Single Barrel 2011 Limited Edition. It's hitting the spot along with a Padilla Hybrid cigar.

On vacation this week and I have been busy preparing for our daughter's commitment ceremony tomorrow here at our place.

I think we are all set and I noticed that I only have a Willett R&E, Willett 1789b, 4R1B and Wild Turkey Sherry Signature open.

So a trip down to the bunker was in order and I brought up a few gloden oldies.

We will have plenty of beer and wine tomorrow and I'll put out a Maker's Mark that I got for Christmas last year.

But my Centennial, Kentucky Spirit, 4R Rutledge amd Eagle Rare will tucked away out of sight.

They'll love the Maker's.

Now then, what should I go with first?
