Been hanging in the low to mid shelf range shelf as of late.Having a mighty pour of Fighting Cock, for $15.99 its tough to beat at this pricepoint.

I like Fighting Cock too and it is a regular for us when we watch college football out in the garage while cooking brats. Don't ask me why but FC and WT101 are the "go to" bourbons on Saturday afternoons during the college football season and, despite having dozens of other bourbons on hand, my friends will squawk if I'm out of FC when kickoff time rolls around.

In a similar vein I've been knocking back a lot of HH gold label BiB lately. I've been trying to wrap up a bunch of outdoor projects in the evenings (new roof on house and garage, repair and replace siding on back wall of garage, paint house, new storm doors, etc., etc.) and by the time I'm done I'm ready for a snort that I don't have to think about much. Been hitting the Knob Creek Single Barrel a bit, too, when I'm looking for a little extra pain killer.

I have to say that HH gold seems to be trending less minty which isn't a bad thing.

Both yesterday and today, I've had a pour of the EH Taylor Barrel Proof when I've gotten home from work.

Revisiting a old favorite that hasn't been open for awhile, plain old Knob Creek, very nice, always pleases.

Vacation time in the Colorado mountains and brought some bourbon along: pre dinner at the condo pours of OWA SB and CEHT SB, both with one ice cube; restaurant cocktail "Kentucky Time" of Makers, Mount Gay Rum, Fee Bros. Whiskey Barrel Bitters, lavender-thyme simple syrup and mint (a little too lavender-minty for my taste); glass of '09 Noco Pinot Noir with spectacular meal of Pacific Shrimp ceviche and Colorado Lamb T-Bones and back home with 18 year Willett wheater and 4R OESF :grin::grin:!

JP17 & JP18 at our whisk(e)y club. JP17 is much better than the other, 7-1.

BOURYE! Couldn't decide on one or the other, so I went with both at the same time.

Today marks a week before the beginning of my first week teaching high school English. Suffice it to say, I am getting my ass kicked. Needed to unwind a little bit last night, so I went for some EC 12.

It could be my imagination, but the longer the bottle has been open, the more green tree / tree-sap I have been tasting. I liked the rich fat cotton candy / maple syrup with faint oak sweetness at the beginning of the bottle, so I feel kind of ambivalent about this new flavor strain. (I understand the variable EC 12 has been talked to death, so I am sure someone has noticed something like this before).

Having a little bit of the Wild Turkey 12yo.

sweet carmel corn nose, rye spice tingling on the tounge with more carmel corn on the taste.

Nice long finish, great all around depth.

But I miss the WT char that they are so famous for.

Alright, Oscar. Don't rub the shit in!

I haven't had any WT 12 for a long time, I couldn't resist.

Like Stephen Colbert says, "I don't like to show off, I love it".

Day off. Started with a barrel proof balcones true blue good. Had a sb blend. Nice. Felt special so I cracked a PVW rye. It's a "b" bottle. Very nice indeed! Hope it lasts a while. Only 3 left in the bunker.

A healthy pour of the 2012 4RLESB after a work dinner. You know, it's a shame you can't get this type of pour at a so-called "nice" restaurant.

I've been drinking my pours neat for some time, but I rediscovered the joys that a couple of ice cubes can bring this evening. Decided to try some of the Kahn's SB EC12 over ice tonight and was floored by the change it made. I've enjoyed the EC12 neat, but over ice it was a vanilla-caramel bomb! Amazingly rich and sweet. Think I'll be enjoying the rest of the bottle this way!

Where'd you go eat?

Watershed, which recently moved from Decatur over to my 'hood. The food was fantastic, and they actually have a great bar and interesting cocktails. I was able to try the Johnny Drum Private Stock, which was fine. With the exception of a few places (like Local Three), though, most of the popular restaurants in ATL have only a few bourbon selections and nothing on par with the Four Roses I had when I got home.

Local Three is pretty good...I've only been there once though. It has a nice selection, however no where in ATL will have as good a selection as many of us have at home! :)

H. Harper Station has a good selection according to their online menu, but I've never been there. I don't know how up-to-date the drink menu is either.

If you ever get up north of the city to Roswell there are a couple of places with a very good bourbon selection in downtown Roswell (on Canton Street). I don't know if you ever get up that way but there are some very good restaurants on that street. By far the best bourbon selection is Little Alley Steak and their whiskey menu even separates wheated bourbon from ryed small batch bourbon from single barrels from cask strength (although they incorrectly label the PHC as a wheated bourbon). They have PVW23 (and PVW20, I think), ORVW, PHC Cognac finish, Ritt BIB, FRSmB, and a number of other bottles. I usually opt for the ETL or FRSmB because it's not as overpriced as some of the others. It's a nice bar, with actual whiskey glasses to drink out of, instead of the standard double old fashioned glass (they use the Riedel Single Malt glass for their whiskey). It's worth checking out if you're up in that area.

The other restaurant in that area with a bourbon bar is Table and Main. They carry the FRSB, FRSmB, a couple of High West selections, a couple BMH selections, etc. Not as many options as Little Alley Steak, but more than the standard JD/MM/KC options.

*This probably goes without saying, but obviously both bourbon menus can change according to availability, so if you're looking to try a specific bourbon on this list I'd call first.

Still knocking back my 2007 OF Birthday Bourbon. One more pour tonight should lay that bottle to rest.
