Beer&Bourbon
Splitting a KBS with my wife while watching the Reds. Lots of nice coffee roast on the nose. We both detected a lot of ethanol when first pulled from the fridge that became a more integrated booziness as it warmed; it was still suggestive of a beer that needs to sit a bit longer. Dark chocolate and espresso flavors also dominate on the tongue. I've never enjoyed this brew as much as others and that still seems to be the case. Not worth the effort to get it IMHO, but if you like coffee stouts, it's probably right up your alley - just give it a bit longer to lose so that booziness calms down a bit. HighInTheMtns
Just cracked open a Rochefort 8. The stuff is amazing. Really looking forward to trying the 10 later.I prefer the 10, my wife would pick the 8. Both are exceptional. :toast:I started with an Epic Barley Wine tonight. stevegoz
Good night of Ohio IPAs -- enjoyed my first bottles of Fat Head Head Hunter, Brew Kettle White Rajah and Great Lakes Rye of the Tiger. And I have a trade set up this weekend to obtain more of the first two, which aren't distributed in Chicago....

cbus
Making my way through a bottle of TPS Quaff Bros Manhattan Project. Quite sweet to my tastes, but I do like it. I mainly bought it because the Manhattan is far and away my favorite cocktail. Can't say it really reminds me of that, but I am enjoying it. Not the first Founders release/bottle that does not have a bottle date on the neck. Wonder if it signals anything suspicious? As for the contents, still really good but maybe more malty than I remember? Theories?

I mainly bought it because the Manhattan is far and away my favorite cocktail. Can't say it really reminds me of that, but I am enjoying it.I'm surprised to hear this. My local beer crew (myself included) has been quite impressed with this. It manages to touch on all of the aspects of a manhattan with a nice balance between the components. It's a bit boozy which I think is apt for a beer cocktail. They pull it off at least as well as a GOOD Short's beer pulls off PB&J sandwich, Bloody Mary, etc.; I really can't imagine someone creating a better approximation of this cocktail in beer form.I'll set aside a bottle for the next bourbon tasting to see what others think. It's not uncommon for the seasonal releases to come out earlier/later than the static calender indicates on the brewery websites. In addition, it's not uncommon for me to see bottles without dates on many Founders releases that are distributed in VA. Anyone else notice that? tanstaafl2
Had some people over to kick off spring with a few beers. Of course the weather decides to turn a bit colder after being in the 80's a few days ago but still a pleasant evening. Casualties of the evening included: 21st Amendment Monks Blood Strong Dark Ale Boulevard Rye-on-Rye Rye Beer Bruery Smoking Wood Rye Barrel Aged Smoked Beer Brew Dog Paradox Isle of Arran Stout finished in Arran whisky casks Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer De Dochter van de Korenaar Finesse Tripel Harviestoun Ola Dubh Special Reserve 18 Old Ale finished in HP 18yo whisky casks Heavy Seas Smoked Porter J.W. Lees Harvest Ale Port Cask 2005 J.W. Lees Harvest Ale Calvados Cask 2006 J.W. Lees Harvest Ale Sherry Cask 2011 Jailhouse Brewing Slammer Wheat Jailhouse Brewing Mugshot IPA Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale Samichlaus Doppelbock Bier Sweetwater 16th Anniversary Red Wheat Wine Ale Terrapin Side Project Volume 18, Liquid Bliss Porter Trappistes Rochefort 8 Belgian Strong Dark Ale The magnum of Trappistes Rochefort 8 served as a delightful opening beer followed by a mix of some local brews and odds and ends. The Boulevard Rye-on-Rye, Bruery Smoking Wood Rye, Samichlaus and the three J.W. Lees Harvest Ales were particularly tasty and well worth getting more if I can find them again. But odds are that will be tough.
