Eighteen different sample pours of barrel-aged stouts, barleywines, porters, Scotch ales, pale ales and sours -- none of which I'd ever had before. The Festival of Barrel-Aged Beer (FOBAB) is like Christmas in November!

They must have pegged me for a Jew then, as I was shut out when the tickets sold out in what seemed like less than 1 minute. Ironic, because Hannukah IS in November this year. I really enjoyed it last year... You'll have to give me pointers on how to nab tickets for next year!

Yesterday started at noon with college football. The progression was Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, then Founders Harvest Ale, then Avery IPA, then finished with a Terrapin Hopsecutioner.

 This is why you're one of my favorite people on SB, Aaron. You always keep me entertained. Nicely played.

Hopslam, I do not buy that you have to drink it right away. Still very tasty.

Bear Republic Café Racer 15 and it's very good. Lots of citrus, mild floral notes and not too sweet for an imperial.

I looked for ye but did not find. My only tip is to use multiple browsers or computers when trying to buy tix for these kinds of events. Increases your chances of being able to actually get tix into your cart.

2XIPA from Southern Tier Brewing. Kind of a generic IPA, but it's certainly better than how my Packer's are playing

Deschutes Chasin' Freshies. Tastes more like a wet-hopped lager, if such a thing exists. Still tasty though.

A nice guy from out of state made an imperial stout in one of our 5-gal barrels... he sent us a bottle and we're tasting it now. Very well done brew. I like it a lot because it's well-balanced. Has everything I like about a nice barrel aged stout without the syrupy sweetness and boozy character.

Would think at least a bit of boozyness is kind of the point with a stout aged in a whiskey barrel. I would be a bit disappointed otherwise!

Was it Tim from Urban Legend in Westmont, IL? I had a taste of his Krispy Karl Imperial Stout aged in a Balcone's Blue Corn barrel last spring months before the brewery opened, and it was quite good. Lots of green apple notes.

Enjoyed a few new (to me) brews from Clown Shoes this weekend. Galactica and Tramp Stamp. Both were nice, but Galactica really hit the spot for me. Will be looking for some more in the spring when IPA weather comes back around.

FFF Calumet Queen. Not a style I gravitate towards or have much experience w, but it's tasty cereal, easy drinking goodness. Got a bit more bite and citrus character than most Kolsch's I've had, and seems a bit more toothsome. At $5 per 1 pint 6 oz it's a winner.

Bell's Best Brown Ale at the end of a long and productive day.

I'm drinking my first Red Rock Secale of the year, picked up from the brewery this evening. This is one of my favorite local beers, a rye doppelbock aged for six months in rye barrels from High West (guessing that means LDI, but I'm not sure.)

Just a great drink, I'll be putting at least a few of these back to age in the bottle a while longer.
