Finished of a bottle of CEHTSmB and came close on a bottle of WSR. Trying to clear out some that are near empty to make some room for when I travel to Louisville next month. Can't get much good stuff here in Durham, so I'll be stocking up a bit.

Woodford Reserve is gone. Very Tasty bourbon. Out of all the taste profiles, I'll have to go. 1) Evan Williams, 2) Four Roses Single Barrel, 3) Woodford Reserve. Next for being on deck will be Wellers Special Reserve, Buffalo Trace, and Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit.

My latest bottles banished to the recycle bin are ETL, BT, PS OWA, and (with regards to all you Minnesota folks) my last bottle of Very Rare Old HH 8 yr old 86 proof :frown:.

Killed my bottle of JPS 21 Batch 1 last night. For what I paid for this, it ended up providing a unique and challenging experience. Not always what I wanted to drink, but really hit the spot when I was in the mood. Hopefully the other 15+ year old bourbons I have bunkered with provide me with a similar kind of experience.

I had one of those that I finished last year. My experience was similar to yours. Sometimes it really hit the spot and it was certainly unique. Ultimately, I decided that it wasn't justifiable enough to warrant another purchase but I did learn a lot from the experience and am happy to have had it.

Honestly, if I saw batch 1 on the shelf for the price I paid for it, I'd probably buy it. It's been a great pour to share with friends. I also discovered about halfway through the bottle that old bourbon benefits from brandy snifters. Will need to flesh out that hypothesis a bit. Edited by garbanzobean

Very interesting.......I did not have my Canadian Glencairns yet when I finished this bottle, only rocks glasses and standard glencairns. (The Canadian glencairn I'm guessing will have a similar effect as the brandy snifter with the wider mouth.) I still have some Barterhouse and Old Blowhard left that I haven't had in a long, long time. I'm now curious to see how they will taste with a wider mouth glass. Research!

If you think about it, it makes sense. Cognac and Armagnac are both generally aged far beyond bourbon's lifespan, and are known for being very oaky. Calvados, too. It occurred to me that brandy snifters are probably designed to take this into account. I already prefer brandy snifters for cask strength whiskey, so why not old (probably) over oaked bourbon, too? The snifters sort of provided corrective lenses for the JPS21, letting me "see around" the oak to find a very pleasant, buttery spirit with some nice baking spices. Still finished dry, but not unpleasantly so

YMMV, obviously.

In Texas so went by Spec and bought a MMCS. Empty that in a couple of days. Don't think I want to go back to Spec.

Dickel No. 12. These seem to empty out faster around here than almost anything else.

Must be defective bottles, probably a hidden leak somewhere!

Yeah. that's gotta be it. Either that , or you have a few gnomes in your home raiding your stash. I can never catch these little buggers!

SAOS10. It was a pretty good bottle, with lots of chocolatey notes, but I think prefer the SAOS7 for $15 less.

Well, it's garbage night tonight. Three more good ones bit the dust here recently. An early batch Lincoln Henderson WR, SB HHSS #2, and an 07 WLW all gave up their last recently. :frown:
