What bourbon are you enjoying? Summer 2016

Listening to Braves on the radio tonight, but have my eye on College Football starting up this week.  So, decided to give an early trial run to my CF bourbon.   Yeah, the Fighting Cock 6 yr is still right on.

My kids are sick, and I kinda felt like I was getting a sore throat last night... So in  this order, over the course of a few hours, I poured a Woodford Rye, Knob Creek Rye, and Henry McKenna 100. Low and behold, woke up with no sore throat. Magic!

Been entertaining work "visitors" since Monday morning which means dining out - amazing the poor selection at most restaurants but Makers is always available and that was my drink for Monday and Tuesday, but tonight I did at least find Booker's available... After I've gotten home each night it's been JJ Bowman from the bottle I opened on Saturday (I think it's evaporating as it's half gone already...   

 

On the plus side the food has been outstanding each night...

Technically, it's the summertime house bourbon.  Fall is coming in, and that means higher proofs and more rye in the mashbill.  Time to stock up on OGD114!

I just just finished off those 2 bottles within the last month.

 

The 2013-6 Bookers started off good, but became very good over time. At $47 this was well worth it.

 

As far as the Figting Cock 6 year. I found a place that still carries it for $13.99 with the AGED 6 YEARS on the front. Read mixed reviews and passed on this for a while, but finally purchased a bottle. Come to find out I really enjoyed it and am glad to have found a good supply. Heavin Hill put the right name on this bottle of whiskey!

Down to less than 1/2 fill on the last 2 of my original 4R 10 recipes and had a nice pour of a JR selected OESF last night, loved it when I opened it and love it still.

Another pour of 1792 (Ridgemont Reserve, if you please... and I do please) Full Proof.  

This has become one of my favorite pours in such a short time.     So damned tasty, and the nose is so much a precursor to the palate, all of which brings me right into Bardstown, lounging around behind the GN while Barton dries the spent mash.   ....And, it's dangerously drinkable even at 125-proof; I have to be careful not to over-indulge.      I am not always successful in that last endeavor. 

I can hardly wait to get my hands on our 'picked' bottles (GBS) to do a side-by-side.    This is the second bottle I'm drawing down to the end, even though my picked bottles are in the offing (I'll get 'em at the KBF).     I may need to get a third bottle of 'shelf' 1792 FP to do my SBS.   HA!    Such problems, I know.

Kicked off the college football season with a Jim Beam Double Oak that had I received from a friend.  Also had a couple of nice pours of ER10, which continues to be dialed right into my wheelhouse.

Two very small tastes from a friends CEHT SmB.  Then dangerously large pours (yes, plural) of 4RSiB OESV GS @ 119 proof after my wife hit the sack with allergy problems.  Man, that OESV is loaded with cinnamon and allspice notes - right in the sweet spot tonight.

Last night I enjoyed a pour of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel at a bar. My first taste of it so I wouldn't presume to be able to summarize the experience from one drink at a bar, but I really enjoyed it. Full flavored and well rounded bourbon character; all the things I like in the 10 year magnified.

Imagine Woodford DO on steroids (with the Beam house profile).  . It didn't really shine when comparing it to the refined ER I was also drinking, but it does really enhance what otherwise is just a young Beam.  The price is right too, as I'm told it's running around $23-24 per 750...

JBDO, followed by KC and ER10.  Not a loser in the bunch, but I especially love the fact that the JBDO is a much better value @ less than half the price of the Woodford DO (and the Beam profile vs the Woodford profile is like comparing Budweiser to Bud Lite).
