DPPSmoker
I picked up a bottle of Maker's Mark Select at Crown Liquors on Friday and shared it with friends last night. The label on the back of the bottle stated that the additional staves during the finish process were two seared French cuvee, two toasted French spice and six roasted French mocha. It had a great butterscotch nose. We had a five minute discussion on whether the nose was butter or butterscotch. But in the end, we all agreed with butterscotch. It had the usual Maker's brown sugar and caramel notes to it but it was also very spicy. However, I add one drop of water to my pour and it really balanced out. Almost to a fault. I couldn't believe how much the spice faded when that one drop of water was added. I'm quite happy I purchased this bottle. I also picked up a bottle of Four Roses Barrel Strength Single Barrel OESK at Crown Liquors as well. As much as my friends and I enjoyed the Maker's, we all agreed that the OESK bottle was the better of the two bottles. However, it's driving me crazy that I'm picking up a flavor in this bottle that I've never had before and I can't figure out what it is. If anyone else has picked up the OESK bottle from Crown Liquors lately, I sure would appreciate the help figuring it out. It was aged 9 years, 6 months and has an abv of 58.3%. The Maker's Private Select just hit Chicago too-Binny's (2 different picks), Warehouse Liquors and Delilah's that I know of so far. Binny's has nice descriptions of theirs up but I'm on the fence. With tax it'll be close to $80 and comes up short on age at that price. I still prefer certain single barrel OWA's over any modern Makers including the cask strength 46 I've had. Thanks for your input D.

I buy a fair amount at Crown. I don't have that OESK but I do have the MMSB. I think it needs a little water to make it balanced. I agree it only needs a small amount and then it sings. Crown usually has stellar FRBS. OESK is one of my favorites so I will look to buy one soon. I have been staying with lower to mid tier stuff lately (EC NAS, Ritt BIB), although I did pick up the MMSB and a Pikesville recently.

flahute
It's been a fantastic holiday weekend so far with some ER10, EW12yr Red Label, Booker's 2016-01, KC, and 4RSmB being consumed so far. The night is still young so future selections are pending.
elmossle
Started the evening off with some Rye Whiskey, but decided to cap things off with a nice pour of WTRB. Man does it hit the spot tonight.
fishnbowljoe
Wy wife and I went over to her sister and bil's house tonight. We sat around a fire in the fire pit, made some s'mores, talked until the wee hours and I enjoyed a couple of healthy pours of BT. All in all, a really nice and relaxing evening. "Don't git much better'n that Vern." Cheers! Joe

I have not had the CS 46, but I do really enjoy the regular iteration. I have had several different barrels of the Private Select, and all have been a real pleasure to drink...YMMV...I too am of a fan of single barrel OWA's, some of the best wheaters I've ever drunk. But walking into a store and walking out with a bottle in today's environment is almost as impossible as securing a LE. Granted, the Private Select is more than twice the price, but the availability and different flavor profile make it worth it to me
Hop
It was ECBP on ice to start for the neighborhood block party last evening then a bit of ER to finish - just too hot to enjoy being outside...
mbroo5880i
Getting ready to watch some fireworks this evening. Had a nice cookout with the family followed by a nice pour of EC NAS. I like it. I think I will follow up with something a little more upscale but not sure what yet. Regardless, I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July and enjoyed time with family and friends. Despite all of the election issues and craziness in this world, we live in the greatest country in the world. Our forefathers may have had their faults but their vision of a free country and the structure they established created the greatest democracy the world has ever know. Here's to another 240 years! Charlutz
WTRB 112.8. I broke the cork on this one and hadn't gotten around to working it out and replacing it for a few months until tonight. I've missed this bourbon. Needs a few drops of water but opens up nicely with a combination of nuttiness, caramel and savory baking spices. Medium long finish. Glad to be back. Richnimrod
Had another pour from the recently acquired 1792 Full Proof bottle. After some air in the bottle..... or, a different day on my own old-factory and palate, this is even better than I hoped/expected! More complexity comes forth. Rich caramel, brown sugar, baking spices, vanilla, along with the cereal, and popcorn one expects from Barton, and all backed up by that musty rickhouse aroma I love. For me... today... a stellar pour! I'm even wondering if I should grab an extra for the bunker, all the while knowing I have several bottles coming from the barrel pick done at the Sampler. First World problems; I know.

That is knew of my favorites. I have an old 108pf open right now, but I like the newer 112pf better. I'm having a BT over an ice cube. It's been a while, but this was one of my first bottles since venturing away from all things jack a couple years ago. I saved the bottle and now I decant a 1.75 into my original bt 750. PappyStagg
Enjoying some Old Tub from the Beam distillery with a piece of ice after mowing the lawn. It's 100 proof so I need to do a taste test later to see if it's just Jim Beam bonded in a different bottle with a better story.

Richnimrod
Killed off a bottle of ETL (GBS pick from a few years ago). Down to just one of these lovelies. Sad to see this one pass, and I'll be sadder yet to finish that last one, whenever I decide to crack and quaff it. Very nice pour, especially for a relatively low-proof one that nonetheless, stands up very nicely, thank you very much.
kcgumbohead
A little mingle of OGD BiB and 114. Both are terrific stand alone and this little combo worked as well. Not a serious mingle more a condense opens thing. Loving the OGD these days and even turned a neighbor onto it as his long standing favorite was Basil Hayden. I gave him a blind sample of the Bib and he was blown away LOL!! Just like when GBS Jimmy gave me a blind taste of 114 and it instantly topped my must have list (just dropped some 114 off for that same neighbor, wait till he gets a taste of that!!)
