GeeTen
After trying a Nikka 12 Pure Malt whiskey and a delicious StaggJr (Batch #11), I helped (!?!) a good (!!!) friend finish a bottle of 2007 Saz18. We honored the "dead soldier" with a couple of healthy pours of PVW15. What a wonderful Whiskey Wednesday night. Edited October 13, 2016 by GeeTen Spelling and grammar corrections, of course. beasled
ECBP 128 proof. Not my favourite batch so far (of those I've tried) but for 128 proof it's pretty easy drinking. Cheers all!
BDanner
A couple pours of SAOS 7yr while I watch to see what excruciating way the Chargers find to lose tonight.
Charlutz
Started with a glencairn of Noe Secret neat which put a tingle on the lips and tongue. Added just a little bit of water and rediscovered that this batch is a really good example of what makes Booker's great. After that, moved to BT along with a chocolate chip cookie made by my 11 yo. It's a good night.
Kpiz
It's a dusty bourbon kinda night. Having a couple pours from a quart of Daviess County bourbon

dcbt
Been putting in some hours this week so I've wound down at night with a beer at dinner and then a pour of ECBP with some water to dilute to 90-100 proof. Just great stuff.

beasled
Tail end of a Colonel EH Taylor Small Batch and it's still very good. Cheers all!
$helby
Revisited a bottle of AB 15 I had opened last week. Guess my taste buds are more receptive to it tonight. It was easier to taste the cocoa and I think the finish is much smoother and sweater than before. Glad now I bought a second bottle.
BottledInBond
Started with my new obsession privet selection Blanton's, and have moved on to making cocktails with Evan Williams. Enjoying the fall transition in MN which makes whiskey and darker beers much more inviting
Prof_Stack
Beam Double-Rye, with a great aroma of a well-made bourbon (especially at this price point).
garbanzobean
Stagg Jr batch 3 to close out the week and celebrate success of a fairly complicated gunsmithing project. This has a nice rugged oaky nose, but I get less cherry and more cola on the palate than the much maligned batch 1. Nice long finish in the vanilla cola veign. Good oily mouthfeel. Still a great bourbon, and I have to admit that it's less rough than batch 1. Still think I preferred the cherry notes in batch 1, but this is overall probably a better bourbon. Guess I'll have to grab a later batch to replace this one. I'm not real big on most BT whiskies these days, but Stagg Jr is mighty fine. I typically prefer HH distillate, but Stagg Jr beats the pants off of any ECBP batch I've tried to enjoy (and mostly failed).

I feel the ECBP I have blows it away. Interesting how different palates work. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk

Richdel
Started with FRSB (OBSV), followed that up with EC12 (NAS), finish the night off with the Flyers/Kings and some Larceny.
foster016
Rebel Yell 10 yr Single Barrel tonight. Think I may follow it up with some ECBP batch #8. Passed on a ton of ECBP down in Kentucky this weekend. HH girtshops were asking $75 a bottle...

Interesting how different palates work. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk My bourbon drinking days are full of examples of why making up your own mind pays off vs scrambling to get all the same things everyone else tries to get. I don't like or am ambivalent about ECBP, EC12, Elmer T. Lee, I drank old Stitzel Weller bourbons for years without knowing it and never really cared for them, I don't like most of the PVW from BT or SW, and I like a lot of boring young Heaven Hill and Four Roses distillate. Now I do like plenty of expensive and rare stuff (Four Roses SmBLEs, Saz 18, VWFRR, GTS, ER17, and many others come to mind), but learning to be honest about what I like and dislike has probably saved me thousands of dollars in chasing after stuff I wouldn't enjoy. For instance, being able to walk into a store and buy Stagg Jr whenever I want it vs pulling my hair out looking for ECBP, giving up, and paying the $120+ pricetag you're going to face if you want to be able to buy it whenever you are in the mood. Same thing in scotch. I really love tropical fruit flavors, which typically only arise in relatively inactive ex bourbon cask malts 20+ years in age, at least with the way the industry has gone in the last 40 years. There are a ton of those on the market in the $100ish range, vs paying thousands of dollars for old Macallan or whatever. Not that I'm not still wasting (investing) enormous quantities of money on alcohol. I just spend it on things I like instead of worrying about what others like. I need to learn from guys like Squire and Harry, and stop going after shiny new things.

flahute
OK.....not to contradict the treatise above pertaining to bourbon zen.......I did get a wild hair tonight and for no special reason went with ORVW10yr and a '12 WLW. Special stuff. Don't need 'em to be happy and fulfilled though. I got one pour left in me tonight and will go with the King (as Joe calls it) - GTS '14.
