flahute
I've been paying dues to the cult the past two nights with the same combo: 4RSiB followed by a 4R PS OESV. After this evening's pours, I had more of those brownies w/ salted caramel topping which called for some standard KC. It paired beautifully. BDanner
Cracked open the Weller 12 last night and the only thing that kept going through my mind was WOW. So much going on here. Praline sweetness, leather and oak with a finish that lasts. I forced myself to stop at one pour because I have no idea when I'll find it again. I plan on doing a SBS with this and the OWA. I've also seen some reviews which mention a 60-40 W12 to OWA Batching. Might give a pour of that a try as well. Personally, I prefer 40-60, with the OWA the larger quantity. Of course everyone has their own preferences. To me the W12 is a bit heavy on the barrel/char to be the dominant one of the mixture. OWA USED to be a somewhat better (more balanced) pour than it is today; but the difference is small...IMHO.

Harry in WashDC
For some reason, basic BT is really hitting the spot. I have an OGD 114 ready as well as a recently opened VOB BIB"6", but for some reason my hand just heads for the BT.

Hop
Evan Williams Master Distiller's Select from the crock available at the GS - I've had this before and enjoyed it picked up a couple more when I was up there in the Spring - good stuff
Charlutz
I've run the gamut tonight. ECBP to start, then some OFSig, a little HWRR and now some JDSB. All of those are hitting the sweet spot but because it's been months since I've had the HWRR and the JDSB I am reminded that they are both good whiskeys. Four very different whiskers to be sure. Prof_Stack
MM46 - smooth drinking tonight. Last night at a school faculty retreat, my big boss bought a bottle of Buffalo Trace. Four of us sat around sipping and telling stories. Great times sipping from plastic cups.
Clueby
Opened my very first ER10 tonight. On first sniff I thought "that smells familiar". I grabbed my open bottle of BT (which is a Single Barrel Select version) and sure enough that was the familiar smell. They are VERY similar on the nose. On the palate you can still taste the family resemblance but the ER10 is much more "refined" tasting. It is smoother and has a softer mouthfeel to it with a longer, sweeter finish. Hardly any burn. Gives almost a cooling feel to the mouth. This stuff could be seriously dangerous.

flahute
The joy of sharing a LE bourbon with someone who has never tried it before. I have some clients who know I like bourbon so earlier in the year they were telling me about their trip to and tour of Buffalo Trace. They learned about Van Winkle bourbons as well as how impossible they are to find and they've been looking for an opportunity to try one ever since. At the end of a meeting with them at the office this afternoon, I surprised them by pulling out a bottle ORVW10yr. They were thrilled to try it and enjoyed it very much. This is how these bourbons are meant to be enjoyed.

Kepler
Enjoying a couple of budget champions tonight after drinking from the high end last weekend. EWSB vintage 2002 followed by WT101 now. WT101 is one of my all timers and even though it's not new to me, sometimes I'm still taken aback at the incredible balance, the yin and yang of the spicy and the perfect sweetness at the same time. PS but described it with different adjectives. One said it had a "fuller" flavor, another said it was "smoother" and I got more of a "woody" taste and in a good way. Now, the stock KCSB we were comparing it to was outstanding to me over the past two weeks. The bottles were pretty close but the blind sbs don't lie. I have two bottles of the PS but at $45 I will make sure I have more before they sell out. It's amazing what a little extra time in the barrel can do isn't it? I think that the additional oak influence mutes some of the other flavors. It remains balanced, but still, it's a different animal than the standard 9 year with the added dry oak and leather influence. I like it both ways, and options sure are nice! I went with a wheater theme tonight. OWA, followed by Bernheim.
Wedelstaedt
I am enjoying a nice pour of FRSiB PS OESF, while watching Qualification for The Japanese Grand Prix. My recommendation would be to do a couple variations and try them blind. I actually really liked a 70/30 split (heavier on OWA) more than the 50/50. Last night enjoyed a short pour of 1792 FP. But the ER10 is more refined to me and the one I reach for more often. In fact, ER10 has always been my go-to when I don't want to think about what I am grabbing--ER10 and EWSB. Though I do like the BT single barrels. Last evening, I had a nice pour of FR Elliott's Select. I think this is a terrific release.

dcbt
I had a small 1oz pour of ORVW10 last night. It's the only VW bottle I have without a backup in the bunker so I rarely go to it, but I figured since it's the BOTM I'd revisit it. I need to track down another bottle of this so I can go back to it more often! After that I bounced around with some 1792FPSiBSmB store pick, SAOS9 store pick, and Balcones bourbon. The last one because last night was the first night we could open the windows and enjoy some cool fresh air and I associate the Balcones intense smokiness with campfires. Welcome back fall, at least for a few days until it gets hot again next week.

Mr Rutledge deserves all of the credit he gets for quality and persistence that he put into our cherished brand. However his insistence to bring the brand back to prominence and back to Us in the Good 'Ole USA, fell on deaf ears until Kirin came into the picture. Also, I think without the Japanese people's passion for Bourbon & other whiskeys, Kirin would not have purchased the Four Roses brand.
