I'm drinking a bottle of Cascade Kentucky Peach, a "blend of sour wheat and quad ales aged in bourbon and wine barrels for up to 16 months with fresh, Northwest grown peaches". It's very tart and pretty peachy but I don't detect much barrel influence. It's good, just not in the same league as the better offerings from Cascade. Maybe my expectations were too high.

Had a Boulevard Imperial Stout with Coconut (2015) last night. This beer started my love of stouts a couple years ago as I used to be all IPA's and Belgians before that. I wish this was always around.

Paradox Skully #41, "Blood Rooted", a sour golden ale with blood oranges and ginger aged in wine barrels. The blood orange and ginger give this some earthy character and it has only mild tartness. Interesting beer...not among my favorites from Paradox but the strange ingredients work surprisingly well together.

I know I am not the target market (not an IPA fan in general) and that I am an old fart to boot but all these goofy names and cartoon labels do nothing to make these beers seem any more appealing.

I suppose the zillion craft brewers out there have to find some way to get there product to stand out above the chaff.

And of the few I have had lately some just simply weren't very good either, even if it didn't have hops coming out the yin yang!

Oh well, there are always nice Belgian dark ales to be had readily enough.

This!  Excessive hops makes me think they're trying to cover up some kind of inherent nastiness (well known local brewery(ies) especially guilty).  Will have to look into the Belgian dark ales but any un-hoppy pilsner recommendations would also be appreciated.

Dogfish Head Sea Quench Ale this evening. As the weather starts to warm up here this dry, tart brew would be an awesome beer to relax with after yardwork.

there are basically three rules to craft brewing today (or at least it seems that way)

1. More hops

2. Higher ABV

3. Age everything in barrels

and honestly I like a lot of the stuff they're making, but it does seem like they really try to outdo each other on 1 and 2.

Sapient Tripale.  I know an other boringly good beer from Dark Horse.

If I was limited to only one brewery, Dark Horse would be very high on my list.

I actually try to avoid all the of those. I'll actually add a fourth

4. Add the wildest fruit you can think of. Double points if it's rhubarb.
