This!  Excessive hops makes me think they're trying to cover up some kind of inherent nastiness (well known local brewery(ies) especially guilty).  Will have to look into the Belgian dark ales but any un-hoppy pilsner recommendations would also be appreciated.

I guess it would be hard to beat a Pilsner Urquell for the classic pilsner style. Preferably one you get in a café in Prague! Not as sure about the quality of what is exported but it is perhaps the next best option. There are a lot of different American varieties of a basic pils but they generally tend to suffer from a little too much hopitude for me.

Of the American versions Schlafly seemed like a decent one without an overabundance of hops as I recall. But it has been awhile.

Weyerbacher, Finally Legal. A nice BA Stout @ 13.5 abv.  Nice hints of bourbon from the barrel aging combined with cocoa and vanilla as adjuncts.

I'm an Avery fan as well. I had that beer a few weeks ago - tons of apricot flavor.

Man that looks tasty! I'm trying not to buy beer so I can drink down the ol' collection a bit but I may have to make an exception for that.

I have to ask - do you crush these high-ABV bombers by yourself, or do you have a partner in crime?

Having a couple Dogfish Head 60s tonight. Bourbon is just not sitting well this evening, so I'm having a couple of my favorite beers.

Guess I'll need to start finishing off a few that way too.  (Solo)

Have always waited for someone to share high octane bombers with...hard to clear out room in the fridge that way because my drinking buddy always has something to share.

'Twas a hot day in the city so I opted for something a little lighter than usual: Fieldwork Hazy Train, and East Coast-style IPA. Pretty tasty.
