And the 1920!! What the hell kind of place has these prices?!?

A place that is the higher end store in a larger chain that has always had competition due to its location in a tonier section of Indy and that might also be feeling a little heat from the new shiny store in town - Total Wine.  I notice another large chain in town significantly expanded their holiday sale this year.  It may be due to decreased foot traffic due to Covid-19.  The typically only offered a single day sale at a few stores.  This year it is two consecutive weekends at multiple stores.

The store referenced above has totally remodeled and added a new bourbon room and significant floor space outside of that room.  They have a great history of bourbon selections that began well before the tater boom.  More well known for wine and scotch.  There is also a strong connection to Straightbourbon.com.

They plan to hold a "grand opening" following their remodel next weekend.  I plan to return then.  Hopefully, they will be restocked on OF1920.  Pikesville Rye is becoming ubiquitous in Indy. It is every where and the price is coming down.

A local "well known" retailer advertised they had three bottles of "Lost Barrel Very Olde Saint Nick 17 Year.  Distilled in 1981 and put in stainless steel tanks in 1998.  The price?  $649.99 for a 375 ml bottle.

I am not knocking the retailer because they are always fair with their prices and are without question offer the largest of barrel selections in Indiana and probably the Midwest.  They had the opportunity to obtain something that undoubtedly someone will desire.

Passed on a new one for me.  Just couldn't swing the $205 they were asking.  Different store than the one above.

Various iterations of Peg Leg Porker have appeared in ATL thicker than hungry hogs at the feed trough, but I’m not biting.

Just say no.

Steve and The Black tot say "no" = I won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

I'm not into mystery juice anyway, or crazy expensive stuff.

Any idea where this is distilled?

Sorry, just took the pic and moved on without checking.

At that price point, I don’t blame you. I’ve read it’s distilled in KY. I’ve also read it’s distilled in TN and aged (all or in part) in KY. Heck, I suppose they could have multiple sources. Tough to tell.

I believe most if not all of the rye is from Canada, but it’s hard to keep track of all their various releases.

Today I passed on standing in a 150 person line to pay $150 for Weller Full Proof

Ha.

Come up to STL.

We do that for Eagle Rare for $50.

Most of the stores I frequent - liquor, grocery, it doesn't matter - have come to know me as "cheap bastard."  It is self-described as I have told them that is who I am. I went back to a local liquor store yesterday to pick up another MM101 on sale at 15% off.  I was thinking it was a two day sale this weekend and next.  When it didn't ring up at the sale price, the young lady behind the counter told me that their sale was one day each weekend, Friday12/11 and Saturday 12/19.  I told her "Thanks, I will see you next weekend."  The people behind the counter laughed and said see you next weekend.  Everything worked out as I stopped at Hobby Lobby to pick up 4 large picture frames for Christmas gifts and they were 50% off.  The sale ended on 12/12 which was the day I stopped in.  Cheap Bastard wins again.

I appreciate your frugality. Though I don't know you, every time I'll see your future posts I'll think "well that cheap bastard did it again!"

At least I have an excuse Paul. As I’ve mentioned countless times recently, retirement is looming on the horizon.

Is retirement usually followed by the mixed-feelings-face? I think you're going to rock retirement!

With all of this Indy talk, any recommendations for a LS with obscure Scotch and rum selections? I’ll be in town Friday night and the only shop on my list currently is Carmel’s Vine & Table. Many thanks.

V&T is hands down the best scotch store in the city for IB’s.  Their OB pricing isn’t usually the cheapest.  It might be worth checking out Classic Spirits if you’re already in Carmel...it’s about 10 minutes from V&T.  If you’re looking for something particular lmk.

I think I could help you in that regard. ?

Let's break out the calculator, and see if that 1.75L is really a better deal.

mbroo5880i and I shop at a chain that has a 30% off sale maybe quarterly.  I get an email ahead of time from a manager.  I land like a falcon.  I waste no time, as the reconnaissance had been done a day or two prior.  It's like one of those movies where they rob a casino.

Thanks for this. I had a nice experience at Vine & Table a few months ago-- so I'm keen to support them. I'll check out Classic Spirit's site-- thanks again. Dave
