Ba-Dum-Bump…Pssshhhhh

Please look for that beaut on your next wrapper of Bazooka gum… 🤪

As for my whiskey this afternoon, it’s a comforting pour of Woodford Reserve.  I like to have it around for times like this just past Holiday Season, when I’ve been ripping through several bottles and just needing to get back to one of the bourbons that got me started on the journey.  The signature cantaloupe rind note is much less than in early years, but I can detect a bit over the palate in this bottle.  Honestly, I’d like them to dial more Versailles pot still back into the mix to establish more of that house style.

First, 🤣

Second, for you the cantaloupe rind comes from the pot still? For most it's copper penny.

Drinking a cup of coffee sweetened with a bit of GW4G - woof, dang tasty on a cold windy day celebrating granddaughter #1's 10th birthday.

Almost lost it with that one, Joe.  GW4G coffee coming out my nose.  😅

I was having difficulty deciding what to watch tonight - the football game or a movie.  Then my wife walks in an turns it to the Hallmark movie.  Surf the internet, it is.

I was having equal difficulty deciding what to pour.  I ended up with MM46 Cask Strength.  Nice sweet and oaky flavor followed by a burst of heat, cinnamon and oak on the finish.

Wheater Christmas lives on with a MM101 as I begin my taper to no middle of the week bourbon for January.

Tried a dry January once an only lasted 2 1/2 weeks so I'm going with a middle ground approach.

Put on some pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas so going back on hardcore keto and figure the reduced calories from bourbon reduction will help me take the weight off faster.

I bet this resonates with many of us.  I know it does with me.  I also have tried a dry January and it just doesn't work for me.  I typically try to reduce or eliminate drinking M-Th.  If I end up at an event that involves drinking during the week, I try to reduce my consumption other days.   Throughout the year,  I do occasionally take a week long drinking sabbatical.  I can do that.  I try to do this at least once each quarter.

I have found my consumption has been up throughout the pandemic so I had work to limit my consumption on those days when I do drink.

While very active with running and soccer, I also found I have put on a few pounds over the holidays.  I am a pretty goal-oriented person so, while difficult, weight loss is like a competition to me.

With that 101 being a handle, I’ll be interested to see if you remember your assignment in the morning, lol.

Me? I’ve just poured an ounce or so of Sam Houston 15.

Little SBS from earlier. The Father & Son 13 year was much much better than the OR WTMK 17yr. That said I don’t think I’ll be seeking a bottle of it out anytime soon. Happy to have been able to try it though.

Switched to a Goose Island Bourbon County that the wife unexpectedly declined to drink any of and that was it for me on the day. Considered some Decades to celebrate my new acquisition, but decided it would be a waste at this point.

Followed my Canadian Club Manhattan with a glass of Angel’s Envy, prior to dinner. I am getting that sinking feeling that AE is the next bourbon to undergo a price surge followed by a shortage. It has already increased by $5 per bottle from $44 to $49 a bottle.

Age stated FC103 in a handle with an actual handle handle.  So underrated.  Some day FC will get the respect it deserves.

Sipp'n on Rebel Yell 10yr. Jep, it is all there.

Cheers

Switched up,but stayed in the same distillery?, onto Larceny BP. No question of the family resemblance.

I like both. The 10yr, certainly shows its age, in a beautiful way.

The  Larceny BP is brash, powerful and youngish.

For me, even though one is from HH and the other is most likely from HH, they drink like, they are from two different sources. Therefore, enjoy each without comparison.

Cheers

After hearing all the good reviews regarding MM101 I decided to buy a bottle and see for myself.  I haven't bought a bottle of any MM product for years, so I figured, "What the Hell"?

I must say, you guys are right.  I liked the 101 with its oilier mouthfeel, richness, and slight spicyness. I'm curious to find how the bottle matures over time.  This one may become a staple in the cabinet.  Thanks for the recommendation.

Frank, I always appreciate your generosity with whiskey but when do I some of those wontons?

I can always teach you how to make your own!   Here's a pic of 3 of our grandbabies folding won ton for our Christmas Chinese dinner:

The other 2 grandkids are just to the right of this crew (out of frame) with their Mom and Dad folding more, too.  It's been a family tradition to teach our kids to work for their holiday dinners.  My mom (whose picture is over my left shoulder holding granddaughter #1 in the Sinatra Suite at the Fairmont on Nob Hill in San Francisco  many moons ago) always said I was too ugly to find a wife, so she taught me how to cook.  Guess she didn't want me to starve to death . . . . .  🤣

It’s delicious, right? If you dig it, grab another bottle or two for the bunker, as it isn’t a year-round product. At least here in western PA, anyway.

I love this! My wife's best friend lived in China for 7 years and learned how to make Jiaozi. (Chinese dumplings). They adopted two Chinese boys and are now back in America and making this and other authentic Chinese foods on a regular basis to provide a taste of home for the boys. They visited us last summer and taught us how to make Jiaozi. We have an international district downtown with an Asian grocery store that imports the ingredients.

On topic, some WT101 last night!

Pic for keeping on topic.

Next time your down this way make sure to hit me up. I dated a Chinese girl for a bit and her mom showed me the basics of a pork and mushroom wonton. I'll gladly trade some pours for some tips on wontons. Especially if you can get me off those pre made wrappers.

Good job in both finishing those puppies off and being able to balance the bottles on their caps afterwards.  😀

Balancing the WTKS Fantail actually seems like it would be difficult.
