On the heels of a recent 100 proof OF pick up, I can confirm I enjoy this lower proof version more. The overall balance and lack of prickliness is better for my tastes. I’m also thinking this may be a staple freezer whiskey as the temps rise heading into Summer. Boom! Loving the suggestion for this as the freezer whiskey. Though I prefer the 100 I love this one too and have a handle of it in the cabinet right now. Also love that this is the well whiskey at Delta Sky Club which I happily drink for free while others are paying up for everything else. It's our best kept secret.
Rhettro
As I mentioned in the “what did you purchase today” thread, I finally got my hands on a Seelbach’s order I placed a while back. The first bottle I wanted to pop was this Driftless Glen. It’s their standard SmB bourbon - 96 proof. And it’s really good. I’m shocked. Shocked I Say! The bottle says “aged two years or more,” but it tastes plenty older than two years. No signs of young, craft funk on the nose or palate. It’s sweet, reasonably complex, it’s got decent yet rounded bite, a touch of nuttiness on the finish and is just plain agreeable. Big thumbs up from this guy. If this one bottle is any indication, DG is one crafty bastard to watch.

I just replaced my bottle of their single barrel.

Unless Glen is the name of the owner...

lemonman
I've never been real impressed with WT101 (I'll show myself out), but I picked up one of the new bottles on a whim the other day & cracked it. I definitely like this one much better than the others I've had in the past; sweeter, fruitier. If this stays this good I'll be back for more!

Yeah I cracked this last night and loved it. Ive got a couple bunkered, probably gonna get at least one more. Its just right at cask strength but i may see what a couple drops of h20 does to this sucker.

How long have you been holdin this one? Nose is fantastic, among the very best for me (I really dig wheater nosings the best). I didn't do any side by side with anything the other night but I'd say the nose and finish are right up there with the van winkles 10-15. The legs were also very impressive in the glen. Palate was pretty much typical BT wheater flavor which is quality of course. But the age showed up well and is balanced. I have a good single barrel of Weller orange I want to compare it too soon, as well as the others I mentioned. I've had both my bottles since back when they came out in 2016. Yes msrp if anybody cares. I had tried it a couple of times at bars at the time before getting mine, and I liked it well enough to seek it out. I feel the reviews at the time were a little off, probably due to a little bit of backlash because of BT's marketing of these.

fosmith
Opened this last night and, I have to say, it's amazing! I thought it would taste like a slightly amped up Blanton's but it was so layered and expressive on the nose and palate that my wife and I just looked at each other and said "wow!". Absolutely flawless and a top five for me for sure.

Kepler
Opened up one of my recently acquired Larceny barrel proof batch C921 bottles. It's very different than my A121 (the only other LBP I've tasted) and any other Larceny I've had including the standard product plus 3 different store picks. It has more of a traditional, classic (read "neutral"?) wheater profile, without the traditional nutty note that other HH wheaters like Larceny & RY10SiB usually have ... (RY10SiB is HH juice correct?). I try not to draw hard conclusions after only one tasting session, but that's one of the purposes for this 'What Did You Open' thread, right? So I'm not sure I personally prefer this C921 over the more unique A121 (I like them both roughly equally tonight) , but I do really enjoy this C921 and I do think it will appeal to a broader group of bourbon drinkers, especially Weller and Maker's fans, who seem to be the ones that drive the demand of wheated bourbon in general.
