What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2022

 KC 12 year $80.00

KC 15 year $135.00

I like it, (a lot), but not enough to pay that much. 

Especially when the current 9 year and the ryes are so good and reasonably priced.

I also passed on a JDSBBP Heroes edition barrel pick, which was very reasonably priced at $68.00, tax-free. I have plenty of store picks of it at home,(that I got to try before I bought them), and probably more than I'll ever drink. 

Passed on BBC Fusion series #7, for $52.00. That doesn't seem too outrageous,  but I can find it at home ,(traveling now), and it's not worth the added weight in my luggage.  I might pick up another JD BiB, (haven't seen it at home) but that friggin 700ml bottle is giving me pause.

The food industry has been messing with product sizes for years, seems like every time I shop I notice something else that is not as big as it used to be.

Passed on the Jack Daniel's Bonded 700 mL.   Also passed on Johnny Drum Private Stock at a decent price.  Haven't seen that one in a long time.  I actually liked the last bottle I had of that a few years ago, but I figure there's a good chance that more of their own distillate is in the bottle now, and I'm not sure about that.

For Johnny drum, Kentucky vintage, and Kentucky pure, I get an odd fruit note that just doesn’t go too well.

aged or odd KC only ones I buy.  I'll sip and enjoy 12 or 15.  9 just takes up space.

Passed on a Russel's Reserve barrel pick from Total Wine at $94! This is a week after I passed on the same pick for $83.  No idea why it went up so much. 

Though not in stock, Standard issue RRSiB is listed for $70. I can assure you these knuckleheads are not good enough pickers to warrant the premium.

good to know that the knuckleheads from TW are not just localized to Indiana and Kentucky.   They cannot pick a barrel to save their lives in my experience.

Hey, look at the Spirits Direct NDP two or three year old mystery juice they highly recommend at every chance.  Maybe they're sincere, and really do think that swill is good.  It would kind of explain their single barrel picks. 

Or, they just take any barrel they can get their hands on, because the taters will buy it all (at a premium).

Given that, it's probably the destination for the barrels everyone else rejects.

I often think of the old Life cereal commercial - Mikey will like it.   Total is of course our Bourbon equivalent of Mikey.

Have heard on several of my barrel picks that they just say - send us whatever!

Not that I was really thinking of buying it…………. I passed on a Templeton Rye today. Something different caught my eye with the bottle. I picked one up and looked at it. I then turned the bottle around to have a look see. The back label with other info and the “disclaimer” was different. Instead of the easily readable paper or white plastic label, there is now a clear plastic label that’s hard to read unless the bottle is fairly well backlit. Things that make you go hmmmm.

I might have done the black just for fun as an anniversary gift. Still not worth that much but kinda cool I’ve never seen that bottle.

At 80pf (40% ABV), that's a lot of Kentucky limestone water for $250!  I'd rather take 350ml of Blanton's SFTB (still have a few in the Bunker) and add my own water - or not!

Not bourbon though it could be.  Passed on JD BIB for $28.99 at Costco.   700 ml compared to 750 ml, this bottle be wee bit on the small side.  The price seems right compared to what I see in other stores but I will need to be in the mood before I pick up a bottle.
