At 80pf (40% ABV), that's a lot of Kentucky limestone water for $250!  I'd rather take 350ml of Blanton's SFTB (still have a few in the Bunker) and add my own water - or not!

Black is supposed to be older (it is for the Japanese market). Red is the same thing, but for the regular Blanton's (an older version for the Japanese market).

Made a very early trip Sunday from NJ to the Live Free or Die state to visit the parents. On the way home Sunday night, we stopped at a NH Liquor Outlet on Rt 93. SWMBO didn’t allow me to purchase anything so I left EVERYTHING on the shelves..

The new Jack Daniels Bonded. I know it has been expressed on this forum previously, but I'll reiterate. I just can't get over how dinky that 700 ml bottle looks on the shelf. Others, apparently, have no such hang-up, as it was the last one.

I found it to be tasty!   regardless the bottle size, LOL

 

I think this is going the route of the half gallon of ice cream, or the pound of coffee can.   Neither have been that size/weight for a decade.

It’s one airplane bottle (50ml) less than a 750ml.

 

A JD single barrel 50ml airplane bottle is $4.99 here, so we’ll use that as our closest premium product example.

 

If the bonded were in a 750ml bottle for $39.99 (instead of 700ml for $34.99), I’d wager nobody would be saying anything about it.  It would just be accepted by today’s bourbon community as ok for a new release.

 

Duty free has had this product at $45-$50 for a liter for several years already, so a slightly better deal, travel logistics aside.  You also get the “normal” JD style bottle.

 

Maybe the public outrage over this will be enough to make the distilleries realize that raising the price on a 750ml is the lesser evil versus trying to teach math.

Problem is.. we all know they’ll do both. Raise the price (within a year or two) and shrink the bottle.

Well the issue isn't math, it's called shrinkflation and it's done specifically to deceive the consumer.  There's the rub.

I actually came across the 1.0 liter version of the JD Bonded, the store had both.  The 1 liter bottle was the better value, which was nice to see.  I didn't buy it but I was glad to see it.

I was having drinks with a buddy a few nights ago and he was gushing over the last of his $149 bottle of ETL.  I didn't have the heart to tell him 1) wasn't worth that based on the taste and 2) was a shadow of ETL's former glory.  I just said thank you for the pour.
