First brought to market in 1986, the long-running Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon provides the base for Toasted Barrel Finish. According to the company Press Release, “The process begins with fully matured Small Batch, which is dumped and then re-entered at barrel proof into a second, custom toasted new oak barrel designed in partnership with Independent Stave Company. Made with 18-month air dried oak, the finishing barrel is first toasted and then flash-charred using a moderate toast temperature and toast time. An extensive research and development process resulted in a final barrel toast profile bringing forward dark sugar flavors within the wood to create a balance of smokiness and sweetness after months of finishing.

Should I be suspicious of this bottle?  The shop I bought this at has some serious museum pricing (OWA for $160, 1792 FP for $100, 1.75 of WSR for $200).  Never picked this up before since the price was a bit too steep for me, but I'll bite at $27.

$27 would be at least 50% less than MSRP.  So yeah, a great buy!

Spectacular buy!  I am not sure you will ever find as great of a bargain. One of the finest rye whiskeys available.

Must have been a drop of ECBP in Indy. Saw one store announce their ECBP PS had arrived. It sold out in minutes.

 

I found this guy on the shelf during a quick run to pick up dog food, bread and eggs. Oops, I forgot the bread.

I suspect this got entered into their computer wrong, and it rang up as the price of WT 101 Rye.  Your lucky day

Last night my wife sent me to the grocery to pick a few items. Unfortunately, in my excitement finding an ECBP on the shelf, I forgot to pick up bread.

 

She sent back to the store today. Unfortunately,  I wasn't listening well so I forgot whether she wanted me to pick up rye bread and wheat bourbon or wheat bread and rye bourbon.  I did my best.

And that Rebel Distiller's Collection is a great bottle.  I wish it was still available in my area.

A case of blantons has a mix of both, boxed around  the corners protecting the mesh inside the case.

Was in Dublin yesterday so I picked up my first bottle of 1792 small batch.

1792 Small Batch is a regular pick up, for me.  Nice whiskey at a very nice price, and oft overlooked by many enthusiasts.  Plus, I love the packaging.  It looks very nice on the bar.  If you end up liking it, there are a couple of other expressions of it at higher proof and more age that you might look for as steps up.
