What rye are you drinking/ purchased 2023

Oh, yeah!  The Pikesville drought is over, or something.  Picked these up Saturday.  Was holding my last few ounces until reinforcements arrived.  Celebrated by offing my old bottle Sunday in Old Fashioneds with cashews, pink navel oranges and stilton blue cheese while grilling.  No more plan B cocktails for a while!

I'm having Bulleit 95 Rye.  I find that this is a nice version of the MGP 95% rye from Indiana.  I saw an episode of Longmire, Vic pulls out a bottle of this.  The main characters take swigs from the bottle after a rough turn of events.

I remember that. Great show.

After not buying much last month I went a bit wild today. Didn't blow the budget but put quite a dent in it.

Update. I ran out for a pack of smokes. There was a few more purchased today. I did crack into the ko already. Which is a store pick at 5 year 126 proof for about 40 dollars. Its much better then I'd have expected. I did get to sample before I bought. It really is a great value for what it is.

So three posts in a row. But this time is because I opened my bpr. Im left speechless. In a local group I tried to give tasting notes. But ultimately couldn't do this one justice. Just know I think this bottle is in the top 5 ryes I have ever had.

I'm intrigued.

I'm assuming that it shouldn't be too hard to find in the Baltimore metro area?

Allview, drug city, and a national release on seelbach's. Yesterday. I don't know if there are any left. You would have to call. Welcome to have a pour of mine if they are all sold out already.

So it's MGP rye.  However aged quite well at 14 years.

I finally got around to opening my bottle of Lock Stock & Barrel 16 year Rye this weekend.  I went back to it a few times under different circumstances (after noon, post dinner, cigar, etc).  I'm beginning to think that I'm not a big fan of Canadian rye.

I absolutely love my one and only bottle of that stuff, and I kick myself for not loading up on those 16 year and 13 year bottles when they were on the shelf at $100.  It took me a few visits from that bottle before I warmed up to it, but now I love it as a change of pace pour from all the other ryes in my bar.  I guess I should research other options for well aged ADL because the LS&B options on the shelf today are ridiculous and priced me out of the market.

Not much since beam got control. The hotch 16 was my favorite out of the stuff. Some older wp stuff was great as well. I really liked the little book 2 which had some adl as a component. The barrell 13 year sib I believe was an adl as well. But I haven't found anything recently worthwhile, price not being an issue. If you crack that nut let me know.

Yeah it's a blend of the previous rye releases and two set aside barrels. all of which are 14 year LDI. 10 years in indiana, 4 years in MD. If you dig into the MD heritage collection its a pretty cool story.

Thanks for this info, you saved me a lot of time. Well, on the bright side, I do have an unopened Little Book 2 in my bunker, so I look forward to cracking it open, maybe when this LSB16 that I am nursing is emptied. 🙁

Cool, I was looking at their website. That Mount Vernon that you posted awhile back had caught my eye before.  I assume these are only available in Maryland.

Seelbach's carries them. But they seem to sell out almost instantly. Other then that they are only available from two store in maryland, but they usually sell out each release in a day or two as well.

Not much of a fan of the ryes but one exception is the Knob Creek Single Barrel Rye.  It's got that sweet caramel taste up from like other Knob Creeks but you get the spicy rye note on the back of the finish.  A great sipper.  At 115 proof it is great for those cold nights.  Dean

I agree completely.  That spicy rye on the KC is a palate bracer that smacks with force.  Perfectly beefy for cocktails, but the sweetness upfront that you describe, perfectly primes my palate for before the hammer drops for when I drink it plain.

Funny, I just read this conversation this afternoon.  During tonight's trip to the liquor store, as I was browsing the "really good stuff" shelf, I came up on a wooden box that said LS&B 21.  I thought, 'Hey, that's the stuff those guys were talking about!'  The price--$449. I guess that qualifies for my What Did You Pass On Today entry.

There is a LSB vatted they came out with which runs about 80. And is a fairly good pour. But the Canadian portion is obviously a small part of the mix. Ultimately it is a far cry from the age stated releases. I always preferred the 13y personally.
