Working towards finishing this off tonight. I'm not usually one for the "tater stickers" but this one is pretty good as far as those things go.20230402_200056.thumb.jpg.6850ac50000e7992598c1e2208afa4ee.jpg

WTR101 while watching the CMT awards.  As a hard rock and metal fan, I find all genres enjoyable - well not opera.  I appreciate music for what it is.  I appreciate rye whiskey even more.

Some BBC Origin rye.  I had to, based on prior experience with them.

It is good.  Orange peel and cedar.  Nice traditional rye spices but at $65, there are other choices out there.

I love their Origins wheater, and some folks who've tried them all claim the rye might be the best!

Btw, what is the story on that 2XO?  I've come across it here in Texas but I have no clue about it so I passed.

I went into the store to purchase the Sagamore BiB.  But the manager was putting the CEHT Rye out on the shelf while I was there, so I went ahead and picked that up too, well, since I was there and all 😉

So I decided to have a BiB Rye SBS tonight!  But instead of the new CEHT that I  picked up today, I decided to crack open my old CEHT 2013 bottle just because I generally practice FIFO ... unless I have a reason to otherwise.

I alway withhold ultimate judgment on the tastings until I've had a few tasting sessions, but I must say the first impression of this Sagamore BiB is really quite impressive.  It has a more silky mouthfeel and the finish is much more interesting and lasts longer than the CEHT.

I highly recommend the Sagamore BiB if you find it for a reasonable price (I paid $55).  Shout-out to Sagamore for the 5 year age statement too (no age statement on the EHT as usual) and the label says this product is distilled by Sagamore Spirits in Maryland (not Indiana MGP like most of their products)... so I assume this is their own distillate coming to production (?) .... if so pretty good news and bodes well for their future.

Dixon Dedmon is the blender.  He and the Carters started Kentucky Owl.
He broke away from Stoli and started this line.
The Phoenix is very good.  The Innkeeper is better.  IMHO.
Worth a try.

I’m going to go back to it in a week or two.  May have been my palate last night.

I have all three Origins, grabbed the rye last week. I think the rye may be my favorite taste wise, but won't be a rebuy at it's price of $70. The high rye white label is my overall favorite of the bunch.

Crap, I got all lost in all the Origins s..t, so I just opted for another pour of WTR101.  I am sure it originated sometime in the past.  I will just call it Revival.  It was good.  Disappeared.  Came back at a much higher cost.  Then bazoom, was released at a bargain price.  I paid $25 before it disappeared for a few years.  Then $40 when it reappeared.  Now I can find it for $22.  Same stuff.  Better price.  Thank you, Wild Turkey Distillery!

You can release all the whiskey everyone thinks they want and need but as long as I can find WT101 and WTR101 for $22 you are the bomb!

I got several OF Rye in a recent sale.  I was lucky the manager ordered them for me.  This stuff continues to impress me.  It's like the OF house style turned up to eleven.  Maybe not for everyone, but I sure do like it.

Making a bunny house. The framing is up today. All reclaimed wood. Total project cost so far,  no dollars. Having a few pours of old Forrester rye tonight.

I am out of OF 100 Rye. However, one of the locals has a shelf stacked several bottles deep @ $22.97 so I can easily remedy that.

However, I came to this thread to post about another rye whiskey.

Not one to waste time or a good neck pour, I opened a newly purchased bottle of Chattanooga Rye.  Good a thing the bottle has a long, thick neck which made for a reasonably decent neck pour. 😀

My initial impression of the pour evolved over the time I spent with the glass.  I believe I learned a lot about this whiskey over the 3 to 5 seconds it took to empty the glass.  Just kidding, I spent about ½ hour getting to know it.

The appearance in the glass was a nice rich amber with thick heavy legs clinging on the inside of the glass when I gave it a swirl.  The nose had a hint of pine tree and honey. My expert (haha) palate detected a strong hint of chocolate and malt (almost like a dark chocolate malted milk ball).  Another thought was it reminded me of a chocolate milkshake with a little extra chocolate in it.  Yet, it also reminded me of a single malt scotch with a little added proof.  I am not certain I picked on the fact it was a rye whiskey until the finish. The finish was rather long and spicy. I detected a hint of pine on the finish.  Sort like the pour went full circle. I believe the finish is the best part of the pour.  Lingering and spicy.

It had really long legs in the glass, a solid chewy mouthfeel for a 3-year-old rye, and at 99 proof seemed just right. I have tried a lot of rye whiskeys but never one quite like this.  I look forward to exploring it further.  However, I plan to set it aside for the night to move on to the other Chattanooga Whiskey 111 that I also purchased today.

Picked up 2 Wilderness Trail CS old label settlers select ryes and different proofs. I posted a deeper dive on these in the general “what did you buy” thread as I think it gets more eyeballs than this rye specific thread, though I primarily buy and enjoy ryes myself.

Love  me some Wilderness Trail.
