I had to pick up another Roulette Rye, since my first one didn't last too long.

I have found Roulette to be an excellent base for a Manhattan.  It really lets you know it is present.

Ive tried neither of these yet. How is the JEP? Our cask strength on the shelves here are still the mpg.

Its a rain all day kind of Sunday kind of day. So I'm roasting a duck, making a raspberry sauce and sage stuffing. While that comes along I'm failing at saving this rittenhouse sp to share with friends at a later date. Glad I had the foresight to grab a few while they were available.

Same here in our locals but the giftshop is all KY distilled. They had 3 different proofs one below 100 that had virtually no flavor, IMO it doesn’t warrant being a GS single barrel. The guy in the GS said he has noticed the CS bottles below 100p tend to read pretty light flavor wise. The other 2 were in the low 100s and much better with the middle proof bottle being just outstanding. He mentioned that that one sold quickly and there were only 5-6 left, 1 less as I wasn’t leaving without one so there are gems to be found but be sure to sample first. Those were all ryes, they also had a KY bourbon “finest KY oak” bottling. I didn’t try that one but it looked great from the color. Gotta leave something for next time.

I've tried the fko. Its nice. But is a bit behind the other double oaked ryes available. I liked their mpg sourced one with the black lable quiet a lot. But even the interim bottle was sub par. They both beat the twice barreled fron beam. But miss the sag DO.

Thanks, I was wondering if anyone had tried it. This trip I wasn’t looking to chance the DO as rye was my target. I’ve done a DO but the Starlight release, it was a  good  experience but too sweet to warrant pursuing anymore like it. JEP is also planning a BIB release with the KY distillate, that’s one I’d try but the CS rye l picked up will be enjoyed till the last drop.

So this is the first old pepper I have seen without the distilled in Indiana on the back. Previous iterations have been labeled distilled in Indiana and Kentucky. I've had this for a bit, but haven't opened it. This tasting is in real time. So I'll post again in a few. Also id like to note this is after a ritt sp, and a very nice cab blend.

The nose is super brown sugar and molasses and some clove, searching for it you get a bit of bread and a hint of dill. First sip is surprisingly alive with a bit of toffee a hit of lemon and baking spices and no dill.  There is almost a Smokey quality to the next which lends itself to an almost bbq feel and has a citrus flavor. The finish is mid length but not amazing. Kind of dry and a mishmash of the previous flavors. Not particularly cohesive. Definitely the shortfall of the pour. Otherwise it was excellent. Id rate this around a poor wilderness trail. Id have another at the price, but not two.

I see these around but don't know anything about it.  What's the story on these, ie, what is it about it that you like?

It's MGP 95% rye distilled in Indiana.  The Proof and Wood people in Bardstown bottle this at 100 proof with a four year age statement.  I don't know if it's their barrel selections, where it ages in the warehouse, the extra proof, or all together.  A lot more flavor going on here compared to the Bulleit or Dickel versions of MGP (that I think are OK).

I revisited the Chattanooga Rye I picked up a couple of weeks ago.  Tonight, I am picking more of the chocolate notes, almost like the Coco Wheats Hot Cereal we had as kids.  It certainly is a different rye.  Very enjoyable but different than any rye I have ever had.

I broke down and paid Scotch money for an American rye. It’s good, but I probably won’t buy another one in a hurry.

Thanks for the heads-up. I’ve wanted to pull the trigger on Peerless but the price keeps me far away.

After a sample at the distillery (during a flight we chose at dinner) both my son and I decided we needed a bottle of Bardstown Bourbon Company's Origin Series Kentucky Straight Rye.    Creamy and mellow, at 96-proof it drinks more like 80-proof, yet is full-flavored and decidedly rye.    No buyer's remorse here!

I did the tour and tasting a couple of weeks ago.  We got to try stuff as old as 5 1/2 years. Very good but the consensus of our group was that the bottles are about $50/bottle too expensive.

Did the same on the ‘22 spring trip. I had not tried Peerless prior to the distillery tasting. I was hoping to like it better but came away with the same conclusion as your recent visit. Perhaps after another 3-5 years pass.

I have not yet had any of their products. They are on the 2024 itinerary so I’ll hold off but it certainly sounds good.

But by then, they’ll have added another $50 to it!  🤪

Peerless seems to be doing things right but the pricing is outrageous.  A friend gifted me a bottle in 2017 or 2018 when it was first released to the public.  It was really good.  But, I don't know if it was $90 good or whatever he paid for it.  Yet, a gift always helps make a whiskey taste better.  😀

The price has come down a little but I haven't been tempted to pick up another bottle.  I am ok with WTR101.  Three bottles for the price of one.  This isn't a Cheap Bastard play.  I just know what I like.

I think tonight I figured out the reason for this drastically slender bottle shape.   Some people call that thing a cupholder.  Joke's on them.
