What rye are you drinking or purchased 2024

I've not been buying much recently, although I have a few on my list I'd like. However  recently  I've had a bottle of '17 rendezvous, an a overholt, a JDSBBPR, a rocket top bib, and a wt101r. Still plenty more to go from the bunker...

I've passed on WT Triumph at $310 plus tax several times in the past couple of weeks.  I really was excited about this release, but unfortunately the "Campari Pricing" is a horror show for a 10 year whiskey.

Oh well, I'll just have to make do with the 9 year Cornerstone instead. 🤷‍♂️ 😉.  In my glass now.  Happy fRYEday!

I paid less than half the price of the Triumph for the Cornerstone.  Back in 2019 something told me to buy multiple backups,... so I did ... and right now is the payoff.

This is not to say if I come across a Triumph for a significantly lower price than $310 that I won't break down and buy one.  I'd probably pay $250 for it just to try one ... because I'm a card carrying member of the Flock 🦃

Enjoying a Sazerac store pick single barrel tonight for fRYEday.

These seem to have disappeared lately.

Are they not doing picks of Saz anymore?

I saw these in Texas last winter, but not since then.  How long has it been since you've seen them?

Well, the one I have open is laser coded for 2021.

I probably got it in the fall.

I've not seen or had the opportunity to buy any since then.

OK.  Well, the ones I saw on the shelf last winter (guessing December or January but I don't recall exactly when it was) were at Spec's stores, a leading chain in Texas.  The store picks don't sit around very long these days, so I doubt they were old stock (but I guess it's possible these could have been from a "lost pallet" sitting in a warehouse by mistake).  I didn't check the laser code.  Since I already have a couple of Saz store pick bottles on hand, I passed on the bottle ... so I can't verify the code.  But suffice to say, I *believe* these are still being released, at least in limited quantities.  Maybe we wait to hear from others...

The WTMK Cornerstone rye hit the spot tonight for my fRyeday pour.

To wrap up the evening, my last pour is WT101 rye, a 2013 bottling.  I just love pouring from the 1 liter WT bottles from that period .... one of my gateway bottles back when I was getting into sippin' whiskies. 🥃

I feel like whenever I post about not buying much lately I almost always post a buy immediately after.

I enjoyed my 'cool' day of lawn work, then I enjoyed a generous pour of Baby Saz over 4-big-cubes out on the picnic table relaxing and reading the latest issue of Archeology Magazine, which arrived in Friday's US Mail.   Very nice afternoon.

So I pretty much agree with your assessment. I love sagamore products, but the double oak is just too sweet for me. They have done it sweeter though. A local group recently did a private finish with cherry cordial and maple syrup barrels and although many around sang it's praises, I couldn't have more then a sip. My favorite sagamore bottles have been the 8 years, and their bib stuff. The sherry finish was also really good, but is definitely a time and place kind of pour.

It's too sweet for me. I love Sagamore CS, but not the DO.

I had a small pour of triumph while watching the Olympic men's sport climbing final...it's better than my first pour.

Then the wife and I went out for drinks/dinner with friends, and I'm trying some Sagamore rye double oak. I'm not loving the Sagamore. It's moderately finished and that's not my favorite thing.

Same...

A gift from a neighbor for watching their place and animals for two weeks.  They were in the Savannah area.

Ok my favorite local got me one for $260 so I pulled the trigger.  Just opened it and on my first impression to me it's definitely worth it.  Just like people have been saying in reviews, the nose is absolutely amazing.

Very happy fRyeday indeed.

WR Rye in the glass.

Not a fan of the bourbon,  but the rye is fantastic.

I always manage to snag them on sale at the package store in Va Beach when I'm down there visiting family.

Broke my self-imposed alcohol fast at 15 days with a healthy pour of JDSBBP Rye.

Happy Fryeday!

Earlier, while making dinner, I sipped on a PS of Rittenhouse BiB. Rittenhouse usually punches above its class for me. This one is certainly no exception. A very enjoyable dram.

Next up, I had a pour of M10 Rye. I know the hype around Michter’s products (and the dislike for them as well), but I really like this whiskey. If given a chance, I will buy another bottle.

Happy FRyeday SBr’s.

On a work road trip and brought along my Blaum Bros rye. This one’s been ridden hard, I’ve sampled out several pours to friends and had some on various days to form a reliable opinion for myself. Down to the last 1/3 or so in the bottle,  it’s a nice post work hotel room pour. It’s 5 ish years I believe and reads somewhat bottled in bondy, it’s primarily one note and not very complex, nice mouthfeel as it is NCF, the smoked barley component just peeks in on the finish and just enough that it’s been both tasty and unique. Glad to have tried it but once the bottle empties I don’t see it getting replaced, I prefer standard WT 101R or RITT for much less and I prefer several others at a comparable cost. YMMV. Slainte.

Tomorrow is a big social day at my place. I'm getting ready and staying up a bit later then normal. This is my countertop bottle for the night as it was opened last weekend at my daughter's friend's birthday.

Spent the last couple hours rebuilding an older robot vacuum with the dreaded 4 beep of death.  I had to order a replacement motor from China..

Many screws and a few choice words later, it’s alive!
Now a hefty pour of THH to celebrate.  Happy Fryeday!

I just hosted a very highly attended birthday party for my daughter. I was unaware she knew so many people. Opened for the celebration was a lsb16. It was shared in good company. Luckily me there is still a little bit left.

A few ounces of Alberta Premium Cask Strength over ice tonight.  Anybody had the KC 10 rye yet?  Not available locally yet, but I may pick up a bottle or 2 pending approval from the trusted connoisseurs here when I next venture south through Indiana in November.  Wondering how it compares to KC 7.

I thought the KC 7 Rye was ok.  The KC 10 Rye more than doubles the price for those three more years in the barrel.  😮  So far I haven't been tempted.  Other stuff is more interesting (to me).
