The theme was Sazerac brands last night at bourbon group. Lots of really good bourbon.

You are right, I have a full proof open and just forget to bring it.

I couldn't open your picture.  However, I wanted to welcome you to the forums and invite you to post in the new members thread.  It would be great to learn a little more about you and to share our bourbon experiences.

I am having an afternoon pour of some OF17.  My wife and I were supposed to be in the Blue Ridge Mtns celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary.  Then my surgeries got scheduled and Helene hit that area.
I guess we will be celebrating with a dinner out and relax a home this year.  I will need to start planning for our 40th in 2025.

revisiting my bottle of ezra brooks port cask finish that has been sitting for a month or two. I wasn't crazy about the taste after opening it, but now it seems a little air helped it out, and I might enjoy it after all when I am in the mood for that sweeter profile.

Welcome to SB, Supertank!  Unfortunately, I have not had either of those, so I can’t give any opinion.  But, there’s tons of other subjects where I have a similar inexperience, but regularly give many of my opinions, anyway!!🤪

Regardless of all my gibberish above, I can say that every taste of a Boss Hog I have had (though, not recently), has been very enjoyable.  😁

I opened my recently gifted bottle of KC 18 tonight and had a pour. Hmmmm.  I’ll have to revisit it. 🤔
I then decided to open a bottle of EH Taylor SmB and have a pour of it. Ahhh, much better. 😁

I'm not surprised.  I already assumed you don't care for heavily oaked bourbons, especially rye-based heavily oaked bourbons. Personally I love the sweet oak profile from KC18.

The KC  18  really isn't too oaky for me. It also doesn’t seem sweet. I get the nutty, vegetal flavors I’ve found in other Beam products I had over the years. I don’t really find these flavors off putting. What caught me a bit off guard was this first pour was a bit tannic to me. Like I said, I’ll have to revisit it.

Well truthfully Joe, you've probably forgotten more about bourbon than I've ever known, ... so I'll definitely take your word for it. 😀

Personally, when I tried my KC18 for the first time, I braced myself for overly tannic Beam notes, ... BUT I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't get them.  Instead I experienced a well-balanced sweet oak profile (yes, still very strong with oak notes, but not tannic oak notes) that I wasn't really expecting.  But to be fair, I should probably revisit mine as well.  Cheers Joe!

ECBP “X” Barrels: These are the ones sold at the HH “You Do Bourbon” events. They are reputed to be the best of their brand – rightly so in my view. I have made it a habit to scan the room for non-buyers and see if they’d get me an extra bottle (I provide the cash). Got an extra one this time. It’s for my son in Knoxville whom I visited after the event. We opened it and enjoyed it quite a lot. It was perfect. Just right on the sweetness, offsetting tannins, and the heat. I love ECBP – and these X barrels really take the cake.

I mean to put the two different X bottles I have against the fabled C923. An imperfect comparison, as both X bottles are 125-ish proof vs. the 133 of the C923. I increasingly prefer 115 to 125 or so for most bottles.

Bookers Reserve. Liked it at Beam tasting, but too fleeting of a nip to really sink in for me.

I opened the bottle at my son’s place, poured, and let the Glencairns sit for 30 minutes while we had the ECBP.

My oh my. My favorite Bookers ever, I think. Much less young than normal Bookers, much more oak, some complexity to it. While keeping the sweetness I so like. It did have that peanuty finish. I really, really want to SBS this against other Bookers. I’ve set the “more” machine in motion.

This is very, very good.

Worked in the yard most of the day.  I had a few sunken spots (old tree stumps from 15 years ago) that needed to be leveled and seeded.

I decided that some ER seemed like an appropriate pour for the evening.

Congratulations on getting some outdoor tasks done!  Getting the yard, gardens, windows, and deck this year have consume quite a bit of time this fall..  And that was just at my son's house.  JK, I have also made headway at my house too.  But, I have been spending a lot of time helping him as he is on his 3-week rotation, where he works every day, from dawn to dusk.  On a side note, I will probably put up the outdoor Christmas light over the next few weeks before it gets cold.

I opted to allow my wife to watch the new Hallmark Christmas movie over the Jets-Steelers game.  I can catch the second half.

Enjoyed a solid pour of KC9 followed by a smaller pour of ECBP B0524.  I think I will have another because I have a meeting with my boss's boss tomorrow.  That's always fun.  Actually, he is ok but I need an excuse.
