OscarV
I had no intentions to buy a bottle of bourbon. But after work today I stopped at a store to pick up a sandwich and a coke.I saw a lone bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit on the shelf, so I got it and it now has a good home. I opened one last week so now I have another one bunkered.
TBoner
Old Charter 12 Louisville. Couldn't pass up the price. What upsets me, though, is someone found the two bottles of Chartreuse liqueur I was going to pick up in the same neighborhood. They were severely underpriced, and I bought one to try it. It was in fine shape (I've had some liqueurs that had gone south over time). But I guess another person stumbled upon them before I could get back for the others. Oddly, they didn't buy any of the other vintage bottles of underpriced booze. Aged In Oak
I picked up a bottle of the much-praised Van Winkle Lot B. It's one that I'd been on the lookout for, based on the rave reviews I'd heard here and elsewhere. Apparently it has been at my local liquor store the whole time, but I didn't see it until today because there are only a handful of bottles of it on the shelf at any one time. DOH! In any case, I look forward to trying some tonight. Hope it lives up to the hype!
HighTower
My sister returned from Hong Kong today, and picked me up a WT12 and a Johnnie Walker Blue King George V edition. The WT came to $40 (approx US$32) with her staff discount!Scott
Phischy
Today I picked up OGD 100 Bonded (this any good? It was the last one on the shelf)And I finally found ORVW 10/107. It's really funny in what stores have what as I haven't seen this at any of the other liquor stores around town and I left 7 bottles on the shelf. Their price was $25 so I very much look forward to tasting this and if it's good then I'll buy a few to go in my stash. They also had RVW 20yr for $82!! Cheapest I've seen it around here, so when I get around to getting this I'll be buying it there.
CrispyCritter
Today I picked up OGD 100 Bonded (this any good? It was the last one on the shelf)IMO, it's quite good - it's one of my favorites. Good enough to drink neat, inexpensive enough to be a "go-to" for bourbon-based cocktails, with a sweet and spicy, very assertive profile. It is made with a high-rye mashbill, to the point that I'd call it a classic ryed bourbon.
Virus_Of_Life
Well I didn't exactly buy it, but I got it and gave the money to the person that did: Wild Turkey Heritage from Barrel 83 bottled in May 2005. For the amount of stuff floating in it I have to wonder if it wasn't chill filtered? Finally got one! Here's hoping the other coworkers heading to Korea next month and the month after are as thoughtful and willing to bring me back another or two of these beautiful bottlings! ... Clarification, this wasn't purchased IN Korea it was purchased at LAX departing internationally from the duty free. Only way to get it sad to say. Oh and Korea only allows ONE (1) yes 1 bottle to be brought into the country via duty free.
HighTower
Very jealous Christian! The Heritage has eluded me for about 18 months....although my best friend's fiance is off to Hawaii next month, and they still have heaps there, so I think I'm finally onto it! She's going with her work, so I'm hoping not many of them are drinkers!Scott
gblick
..I finally found ORVW 10/107. It's really funny in what stores have what as I haven't seen this at any of the other liquor stores around town and I left 7 bottles on the shelf. Their price was $25..Wow, nice score, that's one of my favorites! If I had found those, there wouldn't be any of them left on the shelf, especially at that price (and they'd probably give a discount for buying several bottles). Phischy
I tried it last night with a buddy. Who's def not a bourbon drinker and asked, before he tasted, if he could mix it w/ coke. I shot him a look and he says, "Ok, how about I have a coke chaser?" I said that would be acceptable, he ended up drinking it neat. I think I'm having a positive influence on that guy. I really liked this bourbon, very very tasty!I'm def going to pick up another 1 or 2 for the stash and while I"m there I'll get one of the 375ml of OGD BIB to taste that way I can leave the fifth untouched. Martian
I finally found a bottle of Old Fitz BIB. I am not sure of the bottling. It says Old Fitzgerald Distillery DSP-KY-1, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, Bottled at DSP-KY-31. I am not generally a wheater fan, but I still like to try any new (to me) brand. As expected, I didn't care for it neat. It was a little too harsh, but I liked the dry cinnamon/pepper spiciness. I was surprised this is a wheater. I then thought, let's try it over ice. Bingo. Harshness gone but the flavor was still there. The finish is long and soft, leaving a smooth coating on the lips. This Old Fitz BIB may hold up to ice better than any bourbon I have tried. I am going back to buy the other remaining bottle on the shelf.

I have some from DSP-KY-1 dated 01 (2001) and some from the same DSP dated 05 (2005), and I think the 01 is MUCH better than the 05. If you ever spot any from DSP-KY-16, get it, that's from Stitzel-Weller and it's great!

ggilbertva
Was out of town on business. On the drive home I stopped at a couple of ABC stores and found2 each EW 1783 10 year old @ $10.95 a piece3 each AAA 10 year @ $12.95 a piece. (of course both of these are out of production)I actually had a bottle of Lot B in my hand since I'm down to my last bottle and saw the AAA 10 star on the bottom shelf. Decided to see what was behind the 10 star, just in case they had any remaining 10 year bottles. Found the 10 year and put the Lot B back. I figured 3 1L bottles of AAA 10 year was a good trade off of one bottle of Lot B.
RedVette
New store to me, not much there, but some things at pretty good prices. OGD BIB $14, Beam Black $18 so I grabbed them and went to check out. Behind the counter AH Hirsch, "How Much?" I ask. "$75" the response. "Sold" I said, and then when he handed it to me, I noticed that the gold wasn't foil, it was wax. Oh, happy day.

gblick
Gus, it says 05.SteveWell, if you ever run across an 01 (even though it's still from DSP-KY-1), you might give it another try. Don't let any from DSP-KY-16 get past you.
mozilla
Steve, If you like ryes and want to try a wheater thats similar, then give Ol' Fitz 1849 a try. Has a little more age and a little less proof. Not my favorite pour for those same reasons, but I thought it might interest you. Jeff Mo.
