I've been trying to clear out a few of the open bottles and I ran across an Old Charter Prop Reserve that was stiffed in the back of the cabinet..... I forgot how good this stuff was/is.... Plenty of flavor and wood to please !!!! I'm enjoying killing this one !!!!

Some Laird's Straight Apple Brandy BIB. Hot and sweet. But a little too hot tonight.

Old Fitz BIB (DSP16) from 1991. This is good stuff.

Finished with Bulleit Rye. I won't buy this myself (present bottle was a gift) but I enjoy it: so much mint on the nose that it borders on Pine-Sol, but the palate is slightly fruitier.

It was pours of Knob Creek, OFBB 2004, and Crown for the weekend.

The Crown wasn't completely by choice, it was the best thing available at the wedding bar. But did manage to pour a couple of free ones for myself and some new friends I met!

I think my newly married BIL and his wonderful new bride got the best deal. As part of my gift to them I passed along a bottle of Pappy 20. Sad to see it go from my hands, but a deeply satisfying moment in the act of giving and friendship that we have.

I hope they enjoy many glasses of this together over the upcoming winter.

Cheers to them!!!!!!

B

I have to move closer to you...maybe next door! I had to make do with a newly purchased and opened EC-18 (5-15-92 Binny's bottling - excellent) and VSOF from the BHC.

Wish you could have made it down Thad...no worries though...I'm sure there will be more opportunities to pour together! I have a couple more bottles that aren't available in stores that we can still crack open! ;)

Just opened a George Dickel Barrel Select - sharper than the no. 12, a fruitier component and a roasted component on the nose and on the finish.

Are you kidding? Bob keeps that locked up in his "reserve" section. He only breaks that out on special occasions...that and VOB BIB!

A friend we're staying with in Fremont doesn't have a lot of experience with distilled spirits beyond vodka, so we stopped at BevMo and picked up some airplane bottles for a sampling. We tried gin, tequila, cognac, blended scotch, and bourbon. The bourbon sample was WT 101. He now has a better understanding of the differences and my preoccupation with bourbon.

I also picked up a bottle of OWA for us to drink as it's one of my favorites and I thought he'd enjoy it. For him, the difference was that the other spirits are good for knocking back, but bourbon is something to sip and enjoy. I think I may have created another bourbon lover!

That's great stuff but mine's in the garage being enjoyed by the squirrels currently. I started with a Baby Saz and Vernor's, and now I'm finishing off some of my 4R vatting of OBSK, OBSF (most of it is this), and Small Batch. Pretty good stuff! Minty.
