Enjoying some bourbon cocktails tonight. Currently sipping a WT 101 Bourbon & Benedictine. Good but Weller Antique works better, I think.

I had one of the cocktails recently redubbed "The Holdfast" with Benchmark before that and also a Kahn's barrel Elmer T. Lee. Meh. Not as good as the Rock Hill Farms or even the Weller Antique.

Started off with some OWA 7 yr followed by OWA NAS for comparison. The two seem very close to me with the 7 yr being a little sweeter and the NAS bottling having a bit more soft wheat flavor. I'm happy to have a bottle of the 7 yr, but don't think there's enough of a difference to make me lament its eventual passing. Following those up with some AAA 10 yr.

What year is the 7yr bottling? There is a very big difference between the 07/08 bottlings and the pre 06 bottlings on the OWA.

I believe they did with the 18......
Forgot about that one Scott...maybe tomorrow night I'll do a side by side between the two!

That's interesting Bob, as I can't say I have noticed such. In your opinion, what is the "very big difference" between the years you mention? Any idea what you could attribute it to?

Maybe it's Bernheim stuff. I hear those Berheim wheaters are really great. I wonder if there's somewhere I could buy an old, barrel proof Bernheim wheater.

2010 ER 17. I've been slowly working this bottle down for some time now. It gets better with every pour. :yum: Joe

Gettin' an itch for some of my SW OldFitz BIB...haven't had any of that in a while. Actually haven't been drinking much...went totally dry for awhile after some recent dental work...

(fetches the Glencairn and the bottle...)

Finishing up tonight with a chilled pour of Evan Williams BIB White Label. It's been my Summer "fridge bourbon" this year. Fantastic whiskey at any temperature.

All this talk on other threads about "top shelfers" had me digging in the basement and I emerged with my last bottle of THHandy. I think it was a 2009 bottling.

Man, I do have to buy more of this. I paired it with a nice Maduro and voila, instant synergy.

Now following it up with some Wild Turkey Sherry Signature, neat.

Nice play off each other.

I stuck my EW BiB in the fridge this morning to chill. I don't know why, but I've never thought to do this until now!

I hope you like it. It's not for every day, but it does hit the spot with me from time to time. I've found the EW BIB's to handle a cool down in the fridge quite well. Another good cooler that I like is Old Forester Signature. 100, and plus proofers seem to hold up well.

Cheers!

OGD 114 and a couple of ice cubes - more cinnamon and mint came through and a bit of a solvent character on the finish that is not great. Not sure why this happens w/ water or rocks, neat I don't get this on the finish.

Sittin' out back, listening to the Braves on the radio, and I'm in the middle of the Great Hummingbird Macho Battle of the Deep South. Four of them are whuppin' on each other. For little things, they sure like to fight. The guy pictured below seems to be top dog of our feeder. Enjoying the game (Braves up 3-0), and the battle of the birds with a healthy pour of WT12 CGF. Gotta keep it in the bird family, ya know...

Added the last couple of ounces of Bulleit Bourbon to my ryed-bourbon vatting 1L bottle. So now it is a blend of BH, Ritt BiB, ETL, BT, and KC SmB and the Bulleit ... and I have to say it is damn good!

Started with Weller 12, followed with VOB BIB, and finished up with HH BIB Gold Label. I think I'll sleep well

EC 18 and Bulliet rye before dinner yesterday followed by R & E 18 year’s wheat recipe Willet. All tasted good. The EC had no sine of overage despite being 20 years old, the appetising rye is one of the best high rye recipe to my taste, but of cause the Willet was still the best pour of the day.
