WT 101 and OGD 114 (both current bottlings). Why I drink any bourbon besides these (and WTRB and OGD BIB) is a damn mystery.

Regards,

T

OCPR SS in the AM a good choice

I know where a "gin" bottle of OCPR has been maybe I should bring it home and do a comparison study.

Had some GT Stagg yesterday courtesy of a customer of mine.

Woodruff's in Ypsilanti is like Delilah's in Chicago as far as the vibe goes but they don't have the whiskey selection that Delilah's has.

I have been clueing in Andy the owner as to what to get and where.

So he has turned into a decent hunter and scored a bottle of Stagg from a store near Ford and Haggerty (you local MI guys know the area).

After I got his beer in I asked if the bar was open and he said it is now and we had a couple of the newly found Stagg.

Like I told him when we were enjoying it the taste reminds me of Autumn.

I always open a Stagg at Thanksgiving.

After reading Lost Pollito's post about moving home to KY, I decided to have a nice healthy pour of this years Binny's BT. Joe gave me a taste of it the last time I was at the South Loop store and I bought a bottle even though I had no idea of how it really tasted. Reason: he had given me some Alligator just before the BT

As it turns out I am drinking some Old Forester but not just any OF.

It was bottled under a different name by a different bottler.

8yo 128.4prf, lots of different flavors that change after about 20 minutes in the glass.

JW Dant with ginger over ice. I gotta get rid of this bottle somehow. This makes it somewhat palatable.

I've spent this entire summer in a nice groove with ORVW 10/107. The past few years I've enjoyed a lot of ETL, and just felt like a change of pace. In years past, my VW experience centered mostly around 12 lot B. It however, had priced itself out of my range as a daily drinker. Every pour of the 10/107 seems to get better.

Handy 2009.

I think I need to splash some water. This is not hitting me right, a bit too hot tonight.

The most recent releases have been great. And...I'm not a big believer in bottles changing much after opening (until of course they reach oxidation) but ORVW proves me wrong. It definitely seems to pick up some brighter flavors after opening and a little space in the bottle for more air.

Tonight I opened a dustier 200 ml post tax strip era, OGD BIB, but still made at DSP 14. Simply outstanding. Rich, heavy and complex with honey, dates and caramel. Seems as good as the OGD's I've tasted from the '60s and '70s. Got to be at least 8 years of age on this and no doubt it's entire shelf life was below the register and away from any sunlight.

Having some VWFRR which is mostly what I've been drinking since I got home a week ago from being out of town for nearly 2 months. Was nice to have it here waiting for me when I got back as it's my first bottle of it I've owned though I had tried it before.

Great time Saturday night as my friends and I continue to thin out the bunker herd. My mission is to knock off as many open bottles as possible before opening new ones, so Buffalo Trace, EC12, OGD114 and a dusty Rittenhouse Rye all took the fall. The EC12 tasted especially good.

Monday, Monday, OK let's make the best of it and pour ourselves some Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit from 2000 and I do detect a pewter top on it, neat of course.

Tried some of the 2011 OFBB over the weekend. First impressions are that I like it: creamy toffee with some fruit. A little woody on the finish but not overly so.

Settling in with what's turning out to be a marvelous pour of Late-70's WT 86.8. From nose to finish, it's big, bold, spicy, and good. WT pulled as much out of this 86.8er as they did/do out of many of their 101 iterations. Haven't had a sip since I started typing this, and I'm still chewing on the finish.

It's still 92 degrees here so I am having Four Roses Yellow over a tall glass of ice with ginger. Seems to be hitting the spot tonight.
