Settling in with what's turning out to be a marvelous pour of Late-70's WT 86.8. From nose to finish, it's big, bold, spicy, and good. WT pulled as much out of this 86.8er as they did/do out of many of their 101 iterations. Haven't had a sip since I started typing this, and I'm still chewing on the finish.

Opened my first WTKS smooth dark top from 2002 tonight. Tried it back to back with the current bottle, and I get much more caramel and vanilla (it's also about two shades darker). Still the standard WT profile, obviously, but I'm happy with this initial pour.

I just opened a 1999 bottle of Eagle Rare 101 and it seems a bit musty.

Oh well, I'll hang with it and see what developes.

I don't understand the question.

It is an old bottle of Eagle Rare 10yo 101prf, not to be confused with today's Eagle Rare Single Barrel 90prf.

Well, after a couple of nights, its official, I'm just not a fan of Jefferson's Rye. I've tried to come to a understanding with it, but it's just not happening. I'm going to delegate it down the the bunker, and hope that in some time when i revisit it, my thoughts, and taste have changed.

So on that note, I've cracked open the always pleasing ORVW 10/107. Such a winner every time.

I recently felt that way about Jim Beam Rye but a vatting with Rittenhouse BIB produced an exemplary drink. I used about 3:2 the Ritt to the Beam, the extra proof and fruit/minty quality of the Rittenhouse "absorbed" the extra yeasty-like quality that put me off in the Beam. Very good silky texture too. I haven't had the Jefferson rye, but it might be suitable for similar treatment.

I am having a Rye night also with a pour of Bulleit Rye. Not bad getting a minty taste. Not as good as Ritt but I am out of that.

I mean NOLA, Frankfort or Lawrenceburg? I have a bunch of bottles of each but have only opened the NOLA. If one of the three is potentially bad I want to open it next.

B Ferguson, I agree completely about the ORVW 10/107. This summer I realized that I hadbeen a little close-minded about the 10/107 compared to the lotB. Different, but both excellent. I'm in a routine this summer between ORVW 10/107, ETL, 1792, and Jameson 18. But I'm drinking the VW probably 3:1to the others. There was also a lone bottle of 10/90 that I accidently grabbed with an arm load ofthe 107s.

Judging by the date I'd guess it's a Frankfort bottling...it could be a NOLA but the timeline doesn't jive.

The Fightin' Irish nailed it, it's a Frankfort with a brown cap (some have a gold cap) and the bottle date is 1999.

Funny you should say that, i was thinking along the same lines earlier this afternoon pondering its fate.

Like I said earlier, there is potential there, but it really needs something to better round it out. I think this will be the task at hand to come up with a nice marrying partner for it.

Clingman71, Yes, 10/107 is a mighty fine product. It was a really great pour compared to the Jeff. Just too bad it is so limited. But, that also adds to the fun of it I suppose..........speaking of, the hunt should begin not too long from now.

i think for the time being if i want the super high rye bill, I will probably be sticking to Bulleit. That I did enjoy.

Dug out a AAA 10yr from the back of the bar. No change. Still boring. I'm sure I really liked this at some time...Now, I find it blah. Oh, well...tastes are fickle.

Last night it was way too much Bowman BS rye.

Seemed like a good idea at the time....

It always does don't it.

Tonight for me it is the distillations from Brown-Forman that resulted in '07 OFBB and '83 OF BIB labelled from DSP 414.
