I've learnt over the years not to try and keep up...... but it took me many, many weekend long hangovers to reach that conclusion :)

Had three functions to attend commencing Thursday. A lot of beer though bourbon limited to WT/JBW with coke. Knackered.

Picked up a one litre 90 proof Makers at Nicks on Saturday. $65 - good price. Heaven Hill haven't responded to my email regarding proof reduction/price increase of EWB. A bit disappointed to be honest.

Hawks delivered the goods eh?

Picked up a bottle of Wathens and Rock Hill Farms today. Completely out the blue. Just went to get a cheeseburger from some shops near the gf places and while we waited, thought lets check out the bottle shop. Small and independent type. Walked in and BANG. Both bottles just stand out. Start talking to the owner and he saw I was hesitating to pull the trigger on both, so took 30 off the price. I love days like these.

So now I am sitting down and sipping on some RHF. I think this one will take a few tries to see if I like it or I love it. But its not bad at all.

Oh and I have passed on the info to BJW :)

i went there today and picked up a bottle, nice looking bottle. They remembered you and gave me the same price thanks for the tip. Just need to hide it from the misses :)

I had some Blanton's Original tonight and followed with some Morris Brothers Liquor Muscat man that stuff is sweet.

I am really happy that you got it. Its nice to know that you can help a fella out. Even better when you can save them coin. :)

I have found that the supplement NAC helps with inter and post drinking discomfort. It's a precursor to the chemical your liver uses to detoxify alcohol. Not sure if you can get it in OZ, but iherb can help ya out.

I (almost) never get sick, I just get a blinding headache that spreads from the back of the neck into my eyes that no pain killer will stop. I usually just have to wait it out for several hours with bed rest and lots of water.

Mate, I get the exact same type.

There is nothing worse than when it hits and all you want to do is crawl into a hole and die in peace and you have to serve people.

Crazy hospos! I occasionally think back to my 7 odd years of cooking and waiting tables and think "good times" but you gotta be built for it, its a lifestyle more than a job, damn hard and you gotta respect the stayers.

15 years come July.

But I was at least a little smart and made the jump from hotel concierge to corporate concierge so the hours and the pay is much better. But I really do miss it sometimes. Nothing better than either drinking late on a tuesday night or finishing night shift and having a drink at 7am when everyone is going to work and getting all the weird looks.

Gents,

I need a favour from you all. I am about to propose to the girlfriend and instead of doing the custom of having bubbly after it, I am going to crack open a bottle of GTS (her favorite bourbon and something she does not stop talking about).

Now, I can get GTS here in Sydney, but I can only get the 2013 and that proof does just not cut it. She first tried the 2010 and loved that. I dont expect to find that around still, but I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a 2011 or 2012.

If anyone knows a place (and will ship to Sydney) and that is not astronomically priced, please shoot me a PM.

Thanks

Stephen

She sounds like a keeper

I know of a couple of 2013 bottles, but have not seen any earlier releases for a while.

I will keep an eye out though.

congrats Stephen, PM sent! Drinking AA today, I really like this stuff, low proof, subtle, maybe a little watery, but good flavours! picked up a 375 ml for about 6 bucks in the USA last year!

I've got to ask though (as I don't really rate GTS myself so don't keep up with it).... what's the problem with the 2013 proof?

Its a little lower than what the previous years were. 128.2 compared to 143 or 142.6

I am almost certain the bottle she tried first was a 2010. It could have been a 2011, but the proof there is not that far apart. I am just trying to get as close to her first experience with Bourbon as possible.

Don't make the mistake of falling into a rut already - each experience unique - may that be the guiding principle.
