What bourbon are you drinking in Australia? - Summer 2013

I live not so far from Nicks though rarely visit. Makers Mark 90 proof one litres at $65 are good value, other than that, I would go there for Four Roses. They don't carry OGD anymore and I'm not interested in paying huge bucks for middle of the road stuff.

I will have to hunt for that random shop in Cabramatta. My tip to anyone coming to Sydney is to make a trip out to Kemps Creek, it still has the largest range out of any the stores I have been to.

Has my first two pours of Four Roses Small Bach last night, had them neat. I am not great at describing bourbon but the first think I noticed is that it had a different nose to most other bourbons, maybe a bit floral. The next think I noticed was that it was smooth when I had my first taste. The bourbon seems balanced to my taste with no flavour dominating that I could detect. I also got a long finish with a pleasant tingle in my mouth something I usually don't get. I think I like this bourbon a lot and can see why a limited edition of it would be highly sought after.

Yeah, I not fussed. We are all in this together.

The guys I use are : Oakbarrel, Beer and Wine shops various around here always good for a nice rare find, Kemps creek, Whiskey Exchange only for bits I can not get on here in Au, My bottle shop. Nicks, Danny Murphys a bottle shop in Brissy will try and find name, Parade very limited on Bourbons. Smwhiskeyimport a few UK shops, I'll get a few more which I saved on lappy

Well it looks like EW Black is now off my list of bourbons. The new distributor has the product available again (used to be Coles, the new distributor is Think Spirits). I went to Coles today and saw it on the shelf. The price is now $50 (that's a 43% increase) and the proof has been reduced from 86 to 80. I bought a bottle and I can tell you it tastes very different. Not sure who's taking the piss here but I've emailed Heaven Hill to let them know my thoughts. I'll buy any old stock I see (including Virgin Bourbon) though won't be buying EWB at this price/proof again. Complete joke.

Hey I saw a couple EW Black 86 proof today at a store close to the city, $49 though, let me known if you want to know where they are

I bought a few bottles this weekend, EC12, WT101, blantons private, makers 46 and a knob creek. I think that these five bourbons pretty much cover the spectrum of what I like, I dont really need to buy anything else bourbon wise (I 'might' swap the makers for another wheater if there was the option, and if I could get FR single I would probably swap it for the blantons - the blantons inconsistency between bottles is somewhat of a negative)

Just got some pretty good news. The girlfriends parents are over in Japan and picked me a FR Super Premium and a IW Harper. Also sent through a photo of the SP with a FR Single Barrel next to it. I know what I am stocking up on when I go in October.
