Just got some pretty good news. The girlfriends parents are over in Japan and picked me a FR Super Premium and a IW Harper. Also sent through a photo of the SP with a FR Single Barrel next to it. I know what I am stocking up on when I go in October.

Hi Vietish, my parents are going to Japan sometime around June is there any tips for them as to were to go around Tokyo for bourbon. I am trying to get them to get me a Four Roses single barrel or Blanton's Gold or straight from the barrel. Any help would be appreciated. What is the FR Super Premium and IW Harper like?

Have you popped the question yet mate and how did your hunt go?

My wife is from Japan. Never seen Harper or FR SP. I have the mother in law coming next month, will just ask for some readily available Japanese whisky. Next time I go I will try harder.

I will try and find out where they bought it. They not very good with bourbon so I just wrote down those two. I am pretty sure they found the FR in the bottom section of some department store and I have no clue about the Harper as of yet.

And no, not yet. But I am getting close and with the help of a SB member, I am just about to get my hands on the Stagg. Then I will be set :P

EDIT: This is what they told me about the Harper. I hope it makes sense. In Shinjuku in the basement of shops near bic camera. They had both the normal harper and the 12 year old there as well as four different FR. I didnt ask about Blantons

Had a generous pour of Rock Hill Farms over two ice cubes. It tasted very good, better than it did straight a few evenings ago, it has a smooth flavour to my palate. Had a pour of yellow label Blanton's to compare it with again over two ice cubes, in my opinion the Rock Hill Farms was a lot smoother despite the higher proof and also slightly sweeter. I think I like Rock Hill Farms a lot but at the price I paid I will have to make this bottle last a long time.

Sitting down to have a large pour of Eagle Rare. I will actually probably finish off the bottle tonight. It will be on my buy again list

Palate fatigue? I drink a fair bit of beer and will sometimes go without bourbon for some time.

Goodluck Cam, have a great time.

Yeh I think my palate is a little stretched atm, I have been drinking a lot less in general and rarely have more than 2-3 drinks before I get 'bored', a couple weeks off may be in order. But slow cooked food season is coming up and the red wine will start flowing again, so that will slow my whiskey drinking further.

Scotch wise I have been cycling between lagavulin 16, talisker 10, ardbeg 10, coal ila 12 and i just bought a black bull 12 yr blend which I am really digging.

Tried this yesterday.

Sweet. Very sweet. You first get the thick coating of the maple. The bacon then cuts through a little bit. The the vermouth hits mid palate and the burn of bourbon finishes it off.

Not sure if I liked it. I will try again.

Available to buy from Vintage Cellars for $15. There is a range of them.

Spent the day cleaning out my cupboards and garage.

Found an old Wild Turkey poker set. I thought it only had the chips and cards in it. But nope! Still had the bottle! Dusty find in my own house counts right?

Looks interesting V. Ive never had much luck with premade cocktails and tend to avoid them these days, I couldnt see properly, what was the alc.?

Breaking a 3 night bourbon free drought with some bulleit 10yr, my second bottle now, this one took about 4-5 days to open up just like the last one, its fairly heavy on the wood and its slowly making its way to the top of my list, I reckon in a blind tasting I would probably pick it as a Wild Turkey, something about it reminds me of their style.

Yeah sorry for the crappy photos. I will blame the GF for that :P

I am not sure of the alc. But I will find out.

I really need to get a bottle of the Bulleit 10yr. I keep reading how you guys rate it. But for some reason, no store I go has it.

Also, vintage has Knob Creek for 74, which is 10 bucks cheaper than Dans.

Also again! Dan's is now stocking Rittenhouse.

I have only ever seen Bulleit 10 at IGAs, and then its been sporadic which ones do as theyre all franchises that do their own thing and yeh im sold on the Knob Creek, running off to get some now.

Awesome to see Dan are stocking Ritt, I made prediction about this happening a couple days ago in another thread, I wonder if we will get the new label or the old? Etither way its good but once again the price is pretty shitty, are we expected to believe that someone with the buying power of Dan/Woolworths cant sell a whiskey that retails for around $15 US for less than $70 locally? Its a joke.

Got to agree with above ^ we always tend to pay extreme prices over here for any quality Bourbon or Rye whiskey. But it's also good to see the range is getting better in Dans

I am going to email a store about that this week.

They held a BT tasting event not that long ago, so it will be interesting to see if they can get it. But if they could, I would hate to think of their price point
