jeffrey r
Well... wife and I found out today our December baby is a girl. we're both trying to process that info hah. But I'm going with a little WLW right now, probably to be followed by some GTS.Congrats. Two boys here.Did a little EC12 head to head tonight. 6th floor vs 7th floor single barrels. Results, inconclusive. Both excellent, neither superior to the other.
Red One
Picked up a fresh bottle of CEHT Small Batch today. Currently enjoying a nice pour of this with my sons, who are fans of this as well.
mbroo5880i
Well... wife and I found out today our December baby is a girl. we're both trying to process that info hah. But I'm going with a little WLW right now, probably to be followed by some GTS.Yes, congratulations!I rarely buy a bottle that I really just don't like. In fact, I can think of only two ever...George Dickel 12 and now a bottle of EWSB 04. I really like EWSB. However, this bottle is horrendous. It is an alcohol bomb devoid of any of the typical EWSB profile. I bought it at Costco in Ft. Wayne. Lesson learned. From now on, I will stick with barrel selects from retailers that I know and trust. In this case, it says selected by Craig Beam specifically for Costco. I guess specifically so he wouldn't have to dump he stuff down the drain.Quickly remedied the situation with a pour of Crown FR OESF. Slightly herbal with a hint of mint at the end. Hit it with a little water and it is good! The world is right again.
BFerguson
Bit of a sad day to file under the nothing ever lasts. My my oldest and I went to my wife's family cabin this morning, which has recently been sold. Before it passes hands, we got a chance to collect a few small things to remember the times there. Of which, I thought it was a fine as time any to pour the last of my 1958 VOF 8yr. Both the cabin and bourbon lasted longer than anyone probably would have thought, and fitting to see them go out together.Thankfully, wonderful memories of both will remain.B
r.mx
Had an absolutely delicious JPS18 Batch 8 at a local restaurant tonight. Amazing to see it in the wild. Going back tomorrow to kill the bottle.
393foureyedfox
some OGDBIB. havent really cared for this one, as usual. A guy on here gave me a sample of ND OGDBIB, and it was incredible, and I finally got what you guys mean by 'butterscotch' references in bourbon. so...last night, out of curiosity, i dropped a butterscotch candy piece into the OGDBIB bottle and let it dissolve, to see what it tasted like afterwards. Its a bit better, but still cant touch the taste, and especially the nose, of the ND stuff. Its kinda makes me think of a rye-punchy MM46 more than anything. hell, the bottle wouldve sat here forever, why not experiment with it? now, if i can just find a way to use the Old Bardstown 100 proof bottles I was given.... This must be the tax Stamped labeled "a blend of straight bourbons" I presume they came from different states. (Elders Please educate) I'd love to hear your thoughts. What year was it from? I presume it was an export?
Paddy
It was a friends bottle (with the failed cork floating in it) and I haven't had any time to research it any further (and he didn't know much about it other than noting "it's a old as hell" and stolen from his dad). He had gone to the trouble to place an ornate cap on the bottle and I did feel it my duty to investigate, but I didn't find it particularly noteworthy (other than the opportunity to sample it), as it seemed flat, with a touch of leather and moderately woody. On the other hand, the group did find the OBSQ particularly noteworthy (which is exactly why I took the bottle to the gathering). We hit that Q hard! :yum:

Maybe it works for other bourbons, as well.
TunnelTiger
Sitting and starting a sbs of Barterhouse, Rhetoric, and EC21. Just opened the Rhetoric and EC21 to let them air awhile. The Barterhouse has been open for several weeks now and the first sip is just wow! Pure butterscotch. It's amazing how much better this bottle taste every time I have a pour. I am glad I bunkered a couple of these.

GaryT
Big pour of HHSS. Such a delicious whiskey - if supply wasn't limited, this could easily become my daily pour I think I'm going to cry when it is all gone.

GaryT
Fear not, Country. Fear, not... I'm just thankful to have an opportunity to have any! I am nursing the one that is open though, and will guard the one behind it with all means at my disposal Tony - I'm in the same boat, after the "honeymoon phase" of opening it, I try not to hit it too often just to spread out the enjoyment! Jayz
Currently on a trip to north Carolina ( Im from Montréal, Canada) just picked up (my first) four roses! Was a small batch for 25$, great price, but just openned and a bit too sweet ... Maybe corn sirupy kind.. But a bit sweet for my taste ( usualy more of a scotch drinker) i've liked better my EC12 that i bought in my local store. The FR SB ? Is it more Spicy? Im not looking for a rye but maybe should i go WT? I have 3 bottle i can bring back... Looking for USA whisky of course (okay okay one of them Will be scotch...!) but i am lost, So many brand an not a typical profile from a distillery ..! smknjoe
Jay, bourbon in general is a sweet drink. That's why I like it. If you want a spicier FR then go with a barrel proof OBSK if you can find it or maybe even go with a striaght rye whiskey instead. I don't keep up with the ryes as much as some of the other guys around here. So, they can help you more if you decided to go that route.Edit: Duh! Old Grand Dad 114 proof. You can definitely taste the spicier rye influence in that bourbon. More-so than in some straight ryes (like RittBIB.) Jayz
Thanks! In fact i love sweetness in my whisky, my favourites scotch are sherry influenced! (And i really enjoyed EC12) but i found FRSmB maybe too caramel/syrup kind of sweet. I Also liked my Old jack daniels, that started my journey into whisky! But Im really teased by Wild Turkey, it is not available in my country So thats why i want to maybe discover this brand ( as i did for four roses)
