sutton
Pure Kentucky XO - bought it because I think this would be pre-fire HH; distilled July 1994 and bottled 10.5 yrs later. Very similar to a McKenna BiB; with a bit more kick and spearmint to lift it above the sweetness. For $26, a real deal and a chance to taste what I would guess is some reasonably aged pre-fire HH. Red One
I am not sure OBSV is the best bourbon made but it sure is close!I know! It's scary drinkable for the proof. I usually add a cube of ice or a splash of water but sometimes it's delicious neat as well. I'm inclined to bunker as much of this as I can afford while the local store has it in stock. flahute
Thanks! In fact i love sweetness in my whisky, my favourites scotch are sherry influenced! (And i really enjoyed EC12) but i found FRSmB maybe too caramel/syrup kind of sweet. I Also liked my Old jack daniels, that started my journey into whisky! But Im really teased by Wild Turkey, it is not available in my country So thats why i want to maybe discover this brand ( as i did for four roses)If Turkey is high on your list, get some Rare Breed. It's a step up from the 101 but reasonably priced.
gooneygoogoo
Did a blind SBS of SAOS 7yr, SAOS 10yr, and SAOS 8 year barrel proof (around 107 proof so not too different form the others). The barrel proof was the clear favorite but I was surprised to find that I liked the 7yr more than the 10yr. I guess I just prefer higher rye bourbons. Same goes for the FR recipes, I tend to like the OB recipes more than the OE's.
Grain Belt
A store selection of EC12 over two cubes while grilling last night. What a great bourbon for the price!
kcgumbohead
WT Rare Breed would be the pick if WT is in your sights, great stuff with a nicely spicy profile. Let us know what you think.Currently on a trip to north Carolina ( Im from Montréal, Canada) just picked up (my first) four roses! Was a small batch for 25$, great price, but just openned and a bit too sweet ... Maybe corn sirupy kind.. But a bit sweet for my taste ( usualy more of a scotch drinker) i've liked better my EC12 that i bought in my local store. The FR SB ? Is it more Spicy? Im not looking for a rye but maybe should i go WT? I have 3 bottle i can bring back... Looking for USA whisky of course (okay okay one of them Will be scotch...!) but i am lost, So many brand an not a typical profile from a distillery ..! kcgumbohead
Enjoyed some 4R GS OESF last night. Love the layers in this and the what I'll call "refreshing" aspect of that hint of mint. This bottle is why I am now seeking out F recipes.

No doubt it is the best of the current WT offerings.

Phil T
methinks the 112 is better than the 108, I agree Doug. When guys started finding the 112, I decided I needed to store away some 108 because i really like it.Then I found the 112 myself, and damn if I don't like it better. But you know, the 108 won't go to waste.
