Tony Santana
Grabbed a B&E - yeah, I know, the sometimes maligned NDP, but the previous bottle I had was quite good, St. George's generally has a good reputation and I heard they're not making it anymore (sourcing difficulties?), so what the heck. A Russell's Reserve Small Batch Single Barrel - the only one I had before was disappointing, but this was a store pick and I actually got to sample it and found it quite good. And a 4R SmB - at $25 it was too good a deal to pass up.

GrPeMi
Took advantage of a 15% off internet sale and bought the following:Booker'sBaker'sNoah's MillLarcenySide note: Since I live on the border of OR (control) and WA (recently "liberated"), I find myself doing a lot of price comparisons. As others on the board have noted, WA prices and taxes are insane...but OR's are pretty high, too. Here's an example with the 4 bottles above:

Randall's15% offORWA big boxstore+ tax

Booker's45.4761.9578.73

Baker's38.2353.9571.50

Noah's Mill40.7862.1560.66

Larceny16.99N/AN/A

I'll probably continue to buy anything high-value via 'net sellers when they're holding sales...the hobby would be way too expensive, otherwise, IMO. Kyjd75
Wife and I visited Bardstown today. While she was downtown looking around, I visited the HH Heritage Center and then traveled over to Willett. Bought a Henry McKenna at the HHHC which was barreled in March of 2001. Interesting in that it was a new label bottle, so it may actually be a year or two older than 10. At Willett told myself I was buying nothing. After unsuccessfully trying to convince the ladies at the GS to let me sample the 25 yr rye, I wound up buy another 11 yr WFE. I have gone from being a total non-believer to a now addicted Willett WFE lover. Only thing I can say is that I've never had a bad bottle yet. RockBottom
After receiving a few recommendations I headed over to a mo county store and picked up a few easy finds that I haven't tried yet.Old Grand Dad 114McKenna 10yrGeorge Dickel Barrel SelectRussels Reserve SB 10yrAfter I grabbed the goods and I was on my way to the counter I spied a bottle of Jeffersons Ocean for $68. It's $95-$110 back home and I have thought about it a few times but always passed telling myself it's just a gimmick. At $68 I'll try my luck. johnnybogey
Was able to score my first bottle of anything van winkle, ORVW 10.Most places around me, westchester county, are either sold out or charging 10x. (E.g. Most places that have ORVW 10 are charging anywhere from 300-600). When the salesperson over the phone said they had one bottle left, I asked how much thinking he would say something like $300. To my surprise, he said $89.99. I know the this bottle retails for $39.99 but I had to try for myself.

They indulged us because my brother in law bought a bottle. Between that tasting and numerous subsequent tastings of his bottle, I can tell you that it's an oak explosion of bitter tannic proportions. It was unlike anything I had ever tasted (until I recently tried the Old Man Winter 18yr Rye) and it was not for me. I kept trying to like it because it's Willett and it's old and it's expensive, but I just....couldn't......do it. 2 others who tasted it loved it, so there's that. bin31z
I assume that is a dusty find? Or can you still buy that stuff in Japan? Either way, nice pickup. Not that old, it's 2013 packaging, it's everywhere here. Too bad I can only carry so much. 20 bucks!

flahute
The 25 yr rye comes from the same stocks as some of their most famous/coveted releases - see the prices that the "Bonilli" 24 yr ryes can fetch. But what that means is that these barrels have been passed over many times, by many groups, doing tastings of aged ryes for Willett barrel selections. There is a reason these particular barrels were passed over so many times in favor of others.I suspect the reason they finally bottled them is that they were reaching the point of no return and they needed to get them out of the oak. Now however Willett is so cultish they can just directly sell the bottles blind at crazy prices.
