Jim Beam Single Barrel is on sale for $13.99 at my local store - is this a decent Bourbon?  The price, of course, is GREAT.  But, I've never had Jim Beam so not sure what to expect.  I guess, if I hate it, I'll only be out $13.99 though lol.

I would say the SB has less oak influence than JB Black (8 yr AS) and might be less complex than the BIB.  I enjoy JB BIB over the bottle of SB I have by a slight margin.  Around me the SB is $30-$38 so it can't beat the value of Knob Creek at $26-$30.  But that sale price is $6 less than BIB is near me, so that is a great value.  Plus, with a SB offering, you have the chance to get a really great barrel that might elevate it past it's Beam brothers.

Thanks Jason - that is an interesting perspective.  I think I will definitely pick up a couple this afternoon on the way home from work!

Picked up a Gifted Horse today.  I lament the day I stumbled across Old Blowhard because now I feel like I might as well get them all.  Diageo loves me.

Did you look in its mouth? ;)

Well, I DO like OGDbib and OGD 114

Don't decide based on that. OGD and Basil are a completely different mashbill and have a different yeast than any of the other Beam products.

I never met a Beam I didn't like.  Some I just liked more than others.

I don't know if it was ever confirmed conclusively but there was some discussion a while back that, while OGD (and Basil Hayden) still use a different mashbill, they now use the same yeast as every other Beam product. If and when that change occurred I couldn't say.

I checked with my source at Beam, who actually spoke with distillery operations, who confirmed that OGD still uses its own yeast.

Ah! Well, that sounds pretty definitive to me and good to know.

Picked up a bottle of Yellowstone Select today, just opened it up and took a first sip so the jury is out but the nose was very fruity and first sip is interesting with little heat up front and more on the back end, thus far the finish is a couple of minutes long.  We'll see how it turns out

Bought an EH Taylor Barrel Proof. They are ridiculously priced in Europe and this was a little less ridiculously so, so why not.

Also picked up a single Cask Bourbon Barrel aged rum, 11 years old, which I can't wait to try.

Picked up two bottles of Jim Beam Single Barrel (JBSB) for $15.99 ea today. It's not bad stuff! Initially, thought they were on sale for $13.99, but I was mistaken.  Still, $15.99 seems like a steal.;)

4 bottles of 1792 Port Barrel Finish, yes it is one of my favorites.

FWIW, I special ordered two of these a couple months ago.  SOMEbody drank one of them already, and I have no present recollection of participating in the consumption thereof.  IOW: ditto.

EWSB 2004 barrel #1336, 10 yrs 9 months.

Picked up from the small store in my small town.  I rarely visit this store because I work in a bigger store, in a bigger market.  There were two bottles of EWSB, a 2006 in front and this 2004 pushed back. Pretty happy to see the older age on this one.

Grabbed another bottle of ECBP. It's especially prevalent at the moment so I've loaded up with a few bottles as it was nearly a year between sightings.

Picked up a standard 4RSB to take to a dinner party and was surprised to see a "Red 12" EC12 at the ABC store that is now resting comfortably in the bunker.

After about 3 months of walking by it, I broke down and finally picked up a WT Masters Keep today.  I can't lie, smokinjoe's effusive praise for it played a part.

As long as you're not being like this guy talking about the StL Cardinals... :)
