Finished the 10 yr KC SB PS on the right and compared to the newly acquired 10yr on the left. The new one has a lot of wood almost like someone threw some saw dust in my glass. It’s not bad but the one on the right has so much more going a lot of sweetness/caramel, they did a great pick on this one. Enjoying with an Olivia Cain cigar. The Beam profile really seems to go well with a cigar.

Yesterday I had a nice pour of ET BIB followed by WT101. The WT tasted terrible.  This afternoon, I reversed the order. All is well. You never know what is going to influence your palate or how.

During these summer months I have found that higher proofs just don't cut it.  I find myself reaching for a lower proof and still add ice to those.  When I say lower it's like 100 and below.  Just not satisfying to pour a strong one now but give it a few months and the richer ones will be on the forefront.

WSR and Maker's 46 SBS. They couldn't be more different; I'm in the camp that thinks wheated vs. ryed whiskey discussions are mostly moot, and the "wheat taste" folks describe should probably be attributed to the myriad of other factors that go into whiskey making, but what do I know... Anyways, as someone indifferent to everything MM, the WSR, simple & flawed as it may be, is hitting all the right notes third night in a row. Good stuff.

Never had that combo of staves.  BUT, I've now had several combos, and they are just enough different that I will keep seeking out combos I haven't tried.

 

Tonight, like last night, is the last few inches of Booker's 2016-04 Bluegill Creek.  I add two ice machine cubes to two OZ, watch TV, then go to sleep then wake up and go to bed and go to sleep.  The fact that the Nats are beating the Mets (and that creepy mascot, Mr. Met) 19-0 in the 7th inning has me thinking another 2 OZ may be in order if I can find the stairs.

 

Edit - MOTHER DUCK!!  Tanner gave up a home run to Jeff McNeil (his FIRST major league HR) - score is 19-1.  BUT, the ball got thrown back in by a fan, and Tanner got it and threw it to J. McNeil.  Nobody can remember a pitcher ever throwing the HR ball to the hitter, let alone to the batter who hit his FIRST ML home run.  Class.

Finishing off the last of an ER10 PS handle from Yankee Spirits.  A whiskey destination if there ever was one! 

 

The whiskey manager is a great guy, and has hooked me up in the past with under the counter bottles of WoW. 

 

This pick is the second of theirs that, while excellent in it's own right, was chosen by a palate that has different preferences than mine. 

 

Not complainin'.  Good to the last drop!

Feel free to speak ill of the Mets but speak no ill of Mr. Met he is beyond reproach. And to reinforce the self loathing that is being a fan of the city of NY's Senior Circuit team, here is a bourbon that makes me feel bad about other shameful habits that I have.

[Nice Glencairn.  I have at least two of them.]  How come you feel bad about the BTEC?  It may look like Hudson baby Bourbon, but I bet it tastes better.

I appreciate the uniqueness of them and the effort BT puts into experimentation, but none of the ones that I have had over the years (Oat, Rice, UV Light, and this one) have been anything special and two have been fairly unenjoyable, this one being one of them at first taste. Kind of tastes like a mix of breakfast cereal and playdough. Even the ones that were decent weren't worth the $50 for a 375 on taste alone. I appreciate the experimentation but I would say from my experience the Beam Signature Craft line were superior whiskies taste wise with more age at a similar proof and at a similar price point and much maligned based largely on the perceptions most people have on the brands in question.

Thanks for that.  I've skipped the BT experiments if only because I got burned by the Woodford Reserve releases - different company but experiments are experiments, and some work out while others do not.  Like you, I did like the half dozen or so Beam Sig Crafts I tried - some better than others.  While the BSC bottle shape was reminiscent of "inexpensive" perfume I bought my mother for Mother's Day circa 1960, the contents were more interesting when consumed.    

 

Game is over - the Mets are better than the 25-4 shows.  And, the Nats, I must admit, are not that much better.  It was just one of those nights.
