Damn that looks amazing!

I can bring you some BT... just saying...

They were pretty damn good! Come on over.  Although I've moved to Scoth now. I know how much you love that.

Starting with dessert. Root beer floats! I didn't have any BT on hand. Made with home made ice cream.

Nice! A client gifted me some fancy root beer and ice cream so I introduced my kids to a regular root beer float for the first time tonight... added a local craft bourbon to mine and it was extra good. Cheers!

I am drinking tonight to kick this year to the curb.  Started with EHT, moved to RR, and now enjoying an American original.  Here’s to a great 2021!

Great line up. Cheers!

I did have a tiny pour of Mrs. Clueby's Stagg Jr. Batch 14.  I have to say this one is a lot different. Less sweet, burnt brown sugar and cherry cola, more oak and spice.  Tastes a little older. Has kind of a muted nose for SJR.

Started the night of sampling a few different wines at dinner with my parents. When I got home I got my kids to bed, then considered a bourbon, but a dry martini was calling me instead.

Couldn’t let the year end without some bourbon though so I did open my new ORVW. Sipped about a .5oz neat, then made another ~2oz into an Old Fashioned. Gotta say, both ways were GD delicious! And if using something that says the words “Van Winkle” on the label for a mixed drink isn’t bourbon zen, then I don’t know what is!

Happy new year!

Weak isn't the adjective that I would use.  Dedicated is more like it!  😉

Now, that is quite the finish!

All the brave soldiers that gave for my New Year’s happiness.  Sad end to my favorite, WLW BTAC.  Luckily I have a full one bunkered.

This is a dessert liqueur… but quite fitting for the end of an interesting year.

Is that this year's PHC? If so, how does it hold up in this lineup of heavy hitters?

No, it’s the cognac finished from 2011.  I’ve had a hard time finishing my irreplaceable Bourbons, but I fear they won’t last much longer and I have a lineup ready to take their place.  It is a great bourbon and holds up quite well.  It is arguably my favorite finish of all.  I also have the PHC POH, I prefer this although most rave about the POH release.

I'm celebrating the new year with Makers 101,  and loving how air time in the bottle is bringing out the vanillas.

Cool. Nice pic Lloyd. Your love of the FR’s is understandable. 👍 I for one would like to see a few more pics of your new puppy please. 😉

I decided to have a pour from one of my all-time favorite bottles tonight...Elijah Craig 12yr! I bunkered quite a few handles of EC12 when they took the age statement away years ago, so I’m set for quite a few years yet, especially since I drink it somewhat sparingly. I certainly agree that some batches could be a bit oaky, but most batches were heaven in a bottle as far as I’m concerned. I could happily be content with this as my only bourbon if it was still available. The new small batch is pretty good these days, and some private picks can be excellent, but most are still missing that balance of caramel, vanilla  and oak that I get from a bottle like the one I’m drinking from tonight. Cheers!

Tonight is a great example why your palate can change day-to-day.  Last night I had a couple of pours of WR mixed in with a few other pours.  It was just average.  I noted the typical copper "metallic" note others have identified.  Tonight, on the other hand, it is just singing.  Both observations are based on first pours of the night.  I was thinking I was going to move on but I think I will just work on this bottle tonight.

A few years ago I went to a tasting of several PHC and that cognac one still sticks in my memory.  It is really darn good.

I'm not saying it's an equal replacement, but the Cognac finished Belle Meade is quite nice as well.

Now that is one good looking pup Lloyd. 👍 Thanks for sharing the pic. I’ll have a pour of Weller tonight for y’all.^_^

I have the Madeira and Sherry finished Belle Meade, but not the Cognac.  I’ll have to try that, thanks!

Completely agree! I still have about a dozen of these set aside and back in the day it was a clear favorite. The current NAS is not as good to me which is fine because at this point all I have are store picks.

I agree.  Initially, the NAS was fine but over time the flavor of the standard bottle has dropped off.  I like the profile in the 10 to 12 year range.  I sometimes found the 12 year to be a little too oaky.

I didn't realize they were doing KY bourbon now.

So do you think it's from Barton or ?

I also like to build Lego's while sipping on some good bourbon. :)

The EC12 is waayyy better than current EC.  I've only maybe half dozen big jugs left, or less.  Today placed a jug of 2006 on the table along with 2020 EC18.  And other great stuff like ER17.  I need to do more side-by-sides, but I might like the the 2006 EC12 better than the EC18.  Friend of mine at the table just discovered 1996 McKenna SB in his bunker, wonder if I can convince him to compare?

Tonight I'm having a pour of FRYL, maybe WT 101 next.  I have the rye from Lawrenceburg, IN in the cabinet too, but I'm saving that (for now).
