Ok, you had me wondering in the beginning, if you were contemplating suicide by random crap. Some of those may be good, but this looked like a donation of the "oops motif"...

Anyway, fun is fun and that could be fun... 😛

Yeah, it kinda looks like I was trying do do "Leaving Las Vegas" with class.

I really should have given credit to the great club that put this event together, West Coast Whiskey Club.  They put the group together to share whiskey and support local businesses during the lockdowns, hosting events at local bars and restaurants.  Now they are doing great barrel picks as well.   They are on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/560041369094526 or Instagram @westcoastwhiskeyclub.

Well, it's the weekend.  Time for a greasy booze-absorbing burger & some cajun fries.  Along with a Westport store pick on the Barrell.  I liked this one a lot and bought more of them after that first bottle (they had a 20% off flash sale).  It does drink a little hot, hence the tumbler for ice insertion if & as needed.  That size of a pour will definitely make my lightweight rear a Happy Camper.

Putting lights on the tree (finally according to the Mrs) & putting my second to last pour of a 2021 fav in the glass; a RR13. It's no wonder this was one of my best scores of that year...

Oh man, now posts on SB have to come with spoiler alerts!😡

I am getting ready to watch last week's Yellowstone before the new episode to get caught up.  I better log off SB so I don't see Beth kick someone's ass.  Oh wait.  I wasn't suppose to know that.  😀

Westport makes great picks! Nice rich color coupled with a solid proof.

LOL!   I got them a few years ago at Kohl's department store as stocking stuffers for Mrs. Skinsfan, who is a big "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation"  movie fan.  We break them out during the Christmas holiday.

I'm relaxing this evening with the WSJ and another of my blends.  I'm convinced that cask strength bourbon cut with water to preferred sipping proof isn't as full bodied and flavorful as a 50/50 blend of that same bourbon with a quality 92 proofer of the same or complementary mashbill.

I offer the following as exhibits for this proposition:

-  Rare Breed Rye and RR 6-year Rye

-  Baker's single barrel and EC 10-year single barrel

-  Smoke Wagon UCUF and Belle Meade Sour Mash

I have one of those somewhere.  I need to pull it out soon.  I believe mine came from a Total Wine store.

This is both a what did you purchase as well as a what are you drinking post.

I had ordered online (4) KC12's. I keep stacking these because they are still readily available. It has vaulted up the ranks of my favorite current bourbons and I can see the taters coming for it eventually so I keep adding to the bunker in a "dollar cost averaging" style. I went to TW this morning to pick them up and swung through the bourbon aisle just because it's what we do. I saw they had two EC private selections. One regular and one BP. Both 11yrs old. My first reaction was to recoil because TW sucks at picking barrels. Then I looked at the labels which said "Distiller's Selection".

Hmmmm.......with that label, HH is on the hook for quality - it's not a "TW pick" that HH just sent them so they have deniability. At least that was my rationale.

So.........I gave in and bought them both. And? They are both great! Need to go back for more.

I started another solera bottle this evening.   This one's a rehabilitation project featuring two crafties that didn't kill me.   The initial blend is aproximately 30% Litchfield Distilling's Double Barrel bourbon ( 5 years old and 90 proof)  30% KO Distilling BIB ( 100 proof, natch), 35% Wild Turkey 81, and 5% Knob Creek single barrel (14 years, 120 proof.

The result needs time to marry,  but is better than the two crafties on their own.   Both have a certain caulky quality that's toned down by the WT.   It needs work,  maybe by adding some high rye MGP,  but that's for later.   What I'm sipping marries well with Memphis saxophonist Frank Strozier,  who plays a blistering, Jackie McLean- influenced alto.   He apparently disappeared from the jazz scene thirty years ago, still alive but a mystery as to his whereabouts.

Great player, Frank!  Would be curious to know what happened to him after the 1970s.

So would I.  It appears he may have been or became a math or science teacher and simply left jazz.   He curiously performed for a brief period as a piano player.   But no one,  it appears,  seems to know for sure.

His last date as a leader was for Steeplechase on a "direct cutting" vinyl LP called What's Goin'  On.   His version of the classic Marvin Gaye tune is incendiary,  14 minutes of some of most intense playing I've ever heard.   My own theory is that he said to hell with it after that record didn't hit.

Something new from Lawrenceburg atop something old from Anoka. The roly poly rocks glasses arrived yesterday.  I had to break one in with the last of a FRSib.

Looked at all of my opens and couldn't decide what was needed for Effed up Friday, so I decided to whip up an Old Fashioned with the perfect mixer; OF100...

Opened with a pour of Baby Saz followed by a pour of FRSiB (an east sider).

This barrel is from the east side of Warehouse G (GE).  It is pretty good. Some say certain locations within certain warehouses produce better barrels.  I am going with east siders are the best until proven otherwise.  Of course, that might happen with the next bottle of FRSiB I buy.  I believe they have some north siders on the shelf at my local store.  I might need to assess one to confirm my hypothesis.
