Ya can't have too many ways to dispatch a threat.  Especially situational awareness.  I used to tell my Boy Scouts regarding 'Be Prepared:'

"(Pointing to head) The more you have up here, (pointing to backpack) the less you need in here."

Yup.  I like non-lethal if at all possible, it's both the human and the lawyer in me (not that I've been in a fight since I was 16, and that was the usual, trivial teenage dustup). Options are good, one really doesn't want to shoot the drunk guy who's usually civilized and forgot himself in his cups.

Totally relate to BSA, at least back when it was BSA.  I think we managed to teach those boys a good bit.  You could spot the ones with very little male influence in their lives very quickly.  We did what we could to make up for the lack.  Many boys who would have gotten things in BSA that they did not get at home shall be worse off given what that organization has become.

Our troop was boy led, with enough adult advice to avert tragedy.  Lots of late night discussions by the fire on matters great & small.  Lots of learning.  They learned what I meant when I told them "I wish you pain but no harm".  Pain teaches.  That's why it's there.

In addition to being "that guy" who dealt with some of the troublesome sorts (nothing too hardcore, it was a suburban troop), I taught them how to properly cook.  Beef au poivre in a cast iron skillet over a wood fire.  Fettuccine Alfredo from scratch on a camp grill.  Beef Burgundy when a slow cooker was available at summer camp with electricity.  Pepperoni, provolone, and Vidalia onion melts using butter that had been slow-cooked with garlic for a few hours - the smell made them hungry and willing to work!  All on the usual budget.  We even took them to where the restaurants bought in bulk and showed them how to use XL's, buy cheap, etc so we could have good things on the normal budget.  Hot dogs and cold cereal were forbidden!  And then we explained to the Scouts in their later teens the power of cooking well for a woman....along with the male courtesies expected in courtship.

Mostly good kids who just needed a bit of influencing.

I can recall more than a few times where I was at a bar or restaurant thinking ok what do I do if this escalates when a seemingly benign issue turned to s..t.  Fortunately, I never had to act on the potential threat.

Drank WT101 and MM46 PS while watching Yellowstone.  Dare, I have another pour while watching the GB-PHI game?

Tonight I'm going with a 50/50 blend of Bakers 7 -year single barrel (107 proof) and an Elijah Craig 10 year Private barrel (94 proof).   An (almost) perfect 101 Jimmy's  proof and motherflippin' great!

A well earned pour, and bottle kill.

Bagged a deer Saturday and butchered it today.

I usually pay a butcher, but decided to play a butcher instead, and cut it up myself, for a change.  It's been a while,  but I did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself 😉

The deer is cut up and on ice for a few days, before I vacuum seal it.

Mighty fine reason to celebrate, and to celebrate properly.  When, if I may ask?

Drinking with a friend yesterday evening.  We both preferred the Bookers.

All you are missing is a bottle of Candlestick Makers.

Tasting at a friend's place yesterday evening.  Having Kentuckians in Puerto Rico is a Good Thing.

I was surprised at how similar the Stagg Jr is to SFTB.  Delicious.

Sitting down to a WSR to start the evening.

The lesser loved Weller but still worth the price of admission!  An elegant and underrated pour.

Work has been driving me crazy.  Well, ok, I was already crazy.

Started out with a decent pour of MM46 CS, now following up with a smaller pour of ECBS C922. I passed on a backup bottle a few weeks back. Now, I wish I hadn't.

That's ok.  If I run into another good for me.  If not, I will enjoy this bottle.

This is my solera #3,   currently the best by far of my three soleras,  with absolutely classic notes of pipe tobacco and peach.    The ridiculous Frey Ranch bottle has a label that just won't come off;  I'm too lazy to take some steel wool to it because I hate the bottle.  It's bottom-heavy and clumsy to pour,  and I am just waiting for a good empty so I can recant (re-decant?; either one fits) and just  be rid of the thing.

Funny thing about these soleras - I need to know when to leave well enough alone.   Solera #1 was always the best one,  but I kept messing with it and it's now it's the pits.

Small sampling to SBS these two barrels. I really liked the first one and the second is a bit softer on the tongue.  It's also entirely possible that all bourbon gets softer on the tongue as the tongue numbs to the sting after the initial burn.  I'm going to blind SBS these tomorrow to see if I get the same results. Either way, I like them both.

Next up, MM cask strength to indulge the sweet tooth.

This.

Another great pick from my favorite LS.

I think it was around $40.00, and worth every penny.

Something I saw earlier on the What Bottle Did You Open Today topic made me think of Barton. Thought led to action. Always trust the process.
