Anwalt
With the LuxRow12...I left the glass in the sun. I noticed that it got a lot sweeter. Ethanol evaporation? An accidental experiment, I may do it on purpose next time.
Skinsfan1311
9 hours ago, Kepler said: Cool glassware! Thanks! Every few years we rent a cabin that's ~ 20 minutes from the distillery. We usually do an early mid-week tour to sponge some free samples In essence, it's private tour, because there aren't too many people visiting in the middle of the day, in the middle of the week which, essentially, is a private tour because most people are working during the week. On one of those tours, the master distiller, Brian Prewitt was in the aging room doing whatever it a distiller does and he, Mrs. Skinsfan & I had a nice conversation about the whiskey, the area, etc. He was very laid back and friendly. On our last visit, (during the John J. bottle shortage period), we skipped the tour, but bought the John J, (which had a one-bottle limit per person at the time), so I snagged the decanter, a jigger, and a couple of slick glasses. We drink the John J often enough that I consider it "decanter worthy" , (the other being OGD BiB), so we we have a decanter for each.

fishnbowljoe
Last night I started with BT. For my second pour, I grabbed my bottle of ER. As I started to pull the cork, I noticed my bottle of EHT Sm b behind it. Hmmmm. So, I poured some ER, then added some Taylor. Mmmmmmmm. Taraji was in a television series called Empire.
mbroo5880i
Shut down the makeshift dog kennel in our family room after full week with 4 doggies. While we had a lot of fun, especially with the unexpected snow storm, it was time for 2 of the doggies to go home. I will get to sleep in my bed for the first time in over a week. Celebrating with a nice pour of FRSiB. I was planning on a pour of ECBP as a follow up but, as the FRSiB is drinking above its proof tonight, I might just follow up with another pour.
PaulO
Son has no school tomorrow for Presidents Day, no early morning for me. Time to work on opened bottles - OF 100, then maybe WT 101.
smokinjoe
Off for Presidents Day, today. Beautiful weather, which makes it extra special. Got the car washed, wandered around Whole Foods, picked up some stuff, and hit a liquor store, or two. Picked up a Powers John’s Lane for GBS Irish Night and also a KC 9 year. Sipping on the KC on a big cube, while sittin’ in the Adirondack in the Sun. BTW, KC’s improvement on the new non shattering wax strip and cork not needing jaws of life to remove it, may be the biggest upgrade in Bourbonia this century…I need more Mondays like this one. Added Bonus, is that I learnt it is Powers John’s Lane, simply by paying attention. Pretty sure I wrote and said it incorrectly for the last umpteen years…
kcgumbohead
A bit of WT1010 (always stellar) and a revisit of Redwood Empire Pipedream, standard issue not CS. Generally going from 101 to 90- proof is an ill advised progression however, I am enjoying the RE more than I did the initial pour a few weeks back and by a wide margin!! I was planning to throw it in the freezer once the warmer months arrive but based on the recent pour, it might not make it till then!! Slainte!!
Anwalt
Visiting my Louisville-in-PR-Friend again. A very thoughtful friend gave me a Michters from the old Pennsylvania distillery. His parents bought it at the gift shop in the 80's. He lives nearby. He talked about how it went up for tax sale and ATF canceled the transaction. The locals proceeded to empty the place - barrels, everything. Yay Feds, nice job <sarcasm>. It was light but flavorful (I got honeydew of all things) with a bit more ethanol than I expected at that proof. Seemed young. But not bad at all. I wonder at the mashbill. Will let it sit for a month or so and try it again. Moved on to KoK. I love it and think I could spot it blind ("famous last words"). Perfectly on the edge with the oak, tobacco, and leather. Any more would be too much for my taste. Gloriously concentrated. The tiniest sip exudes flavor. And what a long, long finish. Not at all sweet, which I thought interesting. The bottles were indistinguishable which makes sense given the batches, etc. And that's even though one was a neck pour. Then GTS. I love that bottle - which is why its level has dropped quite quickly. So sweet in contrast to the KoK. I can't get enough of it. PHC16 seemed to come in right in between the KoK and GTS. Sweet, complex. My friend thinks the KoK is double-barreled like the PHC. Not as sweet as the GTS, not as oaky as the KoK, but much closer to it than the GTS. Of all things I got birch on the later part of the palate. Just a great bottle. Finished up with Michters Toasted Rye. Delicious. I am becoming more & more partial to Michters - so much flavor without the high proof. Edited February 19 by Anwalt
Anwalt
Started late today (530 pm in PR, we are an hour ahead of EDT). So went light on the proof, looking for something sippy and, umm, "smooth". Haven't had the Blanton's Red in a while. It fit the bill. I've not had any trouble distinguishing this one from regular Blanton's blind. So improving on the palate, little by little.
Anwalt
Many like to crack on Blanton's. But that Red (and SFTB and, to a lesser degree, Gold) is quite good. Worth secondary prices? Not so sure about that. But a really nice sippy bourbon? Yes.

smokinjoe
I e been ripping through this 4RSB. As I was pouring my end of day reward, I noticed that it was an ME Rickhouse Number. Several years ago there was great fanfare for ME 4R bourbons. Honestly, I thought it was overblown hooey then, and don’t believe it has any impact on my enjoyment of this bottle, now. But, this bottle is very good. And, since I ain’t got no other reason to explain why, perhaps I’ll start another ME Fever!
