Bourbon in the Movies

I recently saw a rerun of the "Two and a Half Men" episode in which Charlie berates Alan from drinking all of his "good stuff," and he is holding a bottle of Woodford Reserve as he says it. He then reaches under the counter to fetch a handle of something they probably re-labeled (the label is plain black and white).

My girlfriend was watching Trading Spouses, I swear I wasn't watching. But I happened to notice the guy was drinking bourbon and coke. They tried their best to hide the label, but I paused it, grabbed the bottle, and sure enough, it was Old Ezra 101. Made me break out a bottle and down half of it. Good stuff.

Last night we were watching an episode of "Northern Exposure". Maurice and Hollings were drinking Jim Beam White. With Maurice being the resident Rich Guy, I would've expected something better.

But I suppose all bourbon is expensive in Alaska.

In the movie, "Uncommon Valor", Gene Hackman and another character have some WT in their hooch. What can I say, I like cheesy war movies.

A bottle of WTRB complete with its hang tag can be seen behind the riverboat casino manager's desk in the '04 remake of The Ladykillers. Its hard to spot, but its there.

Likewise, I haven't read all the posts, but watched The Graduate recently and Dustin Hoffman's character is offered bourbon often (as opposed to scotch for Mrs. Robinson) but the lables are obscured by chic bottle cozies.

Janet says "Not unless you like bourbon." when Vixen asks her if she can come in her room, she enters and they both get a little "distilled". Only one bottle is shown in this scene from Russ Meyer's Vixen! and it doesn't look like bourbon.

Russ Meyer's Vixen, eh?

Looks like a trip to the video rental store for me today.

Yep, got myself the Russ Meyer Collection box set last week (18 movies!). :)

In Supervixens we never see a bottle but Clint orders a whiskey sour and Harry orders "a double of Barton" when they're at The Sultan's Lounge.

Off topic here but how about Roger Corman, he's made some great ones to.

"Swamp Women", "Last Woman On Earth" and "Little Shop Of Horrors" are my favorites.

I was watching "The Way We Were" (1973) last night. Robert Redford walks into a diner with some of his friends and they start talking about their favorite things. His friend asks him "Favorite bourbon?" to which Redford immediately replies "I. W. Harper."

It is a period piece, taking place in the early 1940's. Does anybody know what I. W. Harper's reputation was in those days?

Jonathan takes a bottle of Jim Beam White from on top of his dresser and has a few sips before falling asleep in Ghoulies IV.

Last night I was watching Cape Fear (the 1991 version of the movie) and Jim Beam white label is prominently featured as the bourbon the private investigator Kersek mixes with Pepto Bismol which he notes was his father's favorite drink on stakeouts.

Not a movie, but in the TV show Southland a woman was drinking Blanton's. I think the label had been altered but it was definatly a bottle of Blanton's. I don't watch the show, my wife does, so I only cought a glimpse.

I saw a partially disguised but unmistakable bottle of Blanton's on something the other day, but I don't remember what.

Maybe something called NCIS?

My wife said that there is a home bar in that show that has bourbon on it and a couple of characters drink it.

Flicking channels yesterday, I stopped on teen show The Vampire Diaries. One of the characters ordered bourbon neat, and I'm sure the bottle that flashed as drink was poured was a Rittenhouse BIB...
