ORVW 10/107 from 2006...man this bottle is head and shoulders better then the last 2008 that I had. I wish they had more then the two that I got...I would by all of them!

RITT BIB as I'm trying to stay out of my BTAC bottles I opened this week.

Works much better as a leader. Last night I tried to follow Stagg with this and I don't think I finished my pour.

Maker's 46 and then some OWA NAS. I'm glad I didn't drink them in reverse order. The maker's would have seemed extra bland had I drank the Weller first.

I had Beam 6 grains before dinner yesterday and VWFRR and WRMCSO after. All tasted good, but the odd Woodford found the spot best last night. In about 45 minutes I will go to Söderbärke micro beer festival http://smof.barkemalte.se/ for two days. That’s one of my highlights each year.

Had a few pours last night from an old Beam decanter (1980, 80 proof, 10 Years Old) that I found at an estate sale yesterday. This stuff sure beats the hell out of today's Beam White and was a nice pick-up for $4.

On the back deck with OGDBIB and a La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero. Both are excellent.

And there's a rib roast in the oven.....mmmmm.

How do you like it compared to other wheaters?

I'll rank 'em,...

1st group: Any WLarueW

2nd group: Any WLWeller Centennial

hmmm,.... on second thought there have been some Centennials (Julio's Selection & Louisville's) that I like better than some Larue's.

3rd: Old Rip Van Winkle 10/107, never had the 15yo

4th and/or 5th: A Tie-Van Winkle Family Lot B & 2010 Parker's, even though they are vastly different, they are both very good for what they are and I can't choose.

6th: Maker's 46

7th: The BT Trio of Weller's, 12yo, OWA & SR, it's all the same stuff

8th: Maker's Mark

Off the scale, the current Old Fitzgerald by HH, it's a bow-wow.

In preparation for the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, I am sipping on some Stagg before bed. Tailgating begins at 9 am tomorrow in Jacksonville.

I started some years ago with a mingling of all ND OGD (6 or 7, all made in the 70's or up to '87). Some SB-ers tasted this at Randy's, and I believe Doug Philips still has some. Later, I added some 1960's Beam bourbon to it (from a decanter - one of the French Impressionist series) and some 1968 IW Harper Bonded. Today I added some ND OT - from two bottles, one very butterscotch-like, the other a little tamer and possibly a transition bottling. I am very happy with this fruity, complex blend. Not just the taste, but the texture and finish where I seek a soft and supple effect. It is interesting to note the discussion of mingling on another thread. I agree that it's not hard to do, but small differences in what you use can add or subtract various nuances. But, certainly for home purposes, you can never go wrong. It will rarely taste bad and if it does it will make an excellent whiskey cocktail or whiskey and Coke. (Or just keeping adding more bourbon until it tastes right). Almost everything I drink now is mingled, I just prefer my own efforts to many of the brands out there. I will have to get more creative though since my stocks of ND and other older bourbons are almost gone - and they contribute heft, fruitiness and richness to these blends. The one mentioned in this note is a valentine to the pre-1980's style of American bourbon-making and I will keep it as it is.

I like the Pappy's but I just ain't wowed by 'em and I don't buy them for that reason.
But you said that you never tried the 15yo (I was very surprised to read this), and imo you're missing out. Check out the Pappy 15, it's great!

I did share some EC 12 and OGD 114 with my host after the first day of the micro beer festival I did attend this weekend. He is basically a single malt drinker and not at all surprisingly he like the OGD much better.

Had a few yesterday that I've had before but for some reason these three were exceptionally good.

Four Roses OESQ Julios selection on the rocks, Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit & WL Weller Centennial both neat.

Maybe it's the fine company I keep, right Amy and Josh?;)

Rittenhouse BIB before dinner and uncut Blanton’s right now before an early bedtime. The BIB tasted a lot better to my preferences for sure.

My neighbor and I shared a couple of pours of the 2010 PHC and WT Tribute 15 while supervising the local trick-or-treaters.

I think I will be seeking out a PHC.
