Back from a busy trip to California, so tonight, I enjoyed a pour of ORVW 10/107, followed by Weller 12 current release, followed by a little AAA 10 Year compared against AAA 10 Star just to refresh my memory.

Had a little bit of Buffalo Trace tonight. Took it easy as tomorrow is game day up in Gainesville, where I will be enjoying some OFBB '10 from my collection and Jim Beam White at a Beam-sponsored tailgate party.

Had a pour of Virgin 7 y/o 101 with a cigar. Since a lot of you guys are moving away from the high end you might want to give this one a try. Not bad at all for 11.39 a bottle.

I adore the current OGD 114. And, I've said several times that I prefer it to the ND 114. But, tonight I'm sipping on an '82 ND 114, and it is really wonderful. So good, that I dare not compare it to the current, as I don't want to have to go on a regional bottle hunt for this dusty! :o

That being said, I will be consistent in one thing: I still see no similarities at all between the ND and current iteration...regardless, of what we hear about the mashbill/recipe being the same. Night and Day.

It is amazing how different they are, isn't it? the only OGD114 from ND I've ever had actually was a batch 2 that some guy from Georgia sent me, and it's still in my cupboard. thanks to whoever that was! :skep: I've tried it, and I've tried the current- What I can say about both is odd- I know some of you are die-hard ND whiskey fans. First and foremost, Em & Scott come to mind- and great for you guys. I can tell that the stuff is good, but I just don't love it like you do, guys. For me, the same is true of the current 114. I just can't love it.

That being said, I really do like the ND 114. I just don't like it as much as some- that bottle is still around, and I have a tendency to devour whiskey I love.

If only you guys felt about old turkey the way I feel about old ND, we'd have a win/win. At least you guys still win though I guess! Alas....! That being said, I had a bonded old taylor recently that was absolutely fantastic, by any distillery's standards.

Having tried as many dusties as I've tried, I can say that there are a lot, in fact a majority, that I would pass up at this point. Some of the current iterations are as good or better- not to sound blasphemous, but first and foremost to my mind comes Knob Creek. I'd put the current KC up against Bonded beam, and I think that they'd be really different but both excellent pours. Even the current WT101 is getting a lot lot better (although still a very young whiskey).

But as for what I'm drinking? various turkeys, ending with and concentrating around WTKS from 1996.

struck out again??? maybe. the other day I picked up a less than average Glenfiddich; today I sampled some EC18 and was not that impressed.

Like Gillman said in another thread, this latest EC18 expression is excellent. I've really enjoyed the barrels on the shelves now from 1991 distillate. I've sampled about a dozen different barrels currently on the shelves. I found one so good that I went back to the store and cleaned out the shelf of everything from the same date and barrel. Every other barrel I've sampled (barreled 1991) have been excellent with interesting florals and nice lingering aftertaste.

However, picked up one today that was different. More Earthy and very different aftertaste. I should have known something was up since there was another bottle from the same barrel but I chose the one with sloppy handwriting and label placed way low - as if the guy bottling was sampling. I hoped that meant it was so good he couldn't resist.

But I put ??? marks on it at the start of this post because I find I keep going back to it. I'm now going back and forth between two recent EC18's while watching a really bad sci-fi movie, The Incredible Petrifed World from 1957.

Last night it was the Party Source-selected 1792 SB while watching my Badgers destroy the (soon to be former) #1 Buckeyes. Been a while since I've had this bourbon so it's hard for me to compare it with the standard bottling; but vanilla is certainly predominate.

Yesterday at a Jim Beam-sponsored tailgate before the game, I enjoyed a few JBWs+Coke and JBBs+Sprite. Then, as a parting gift, I was handed a Red Stag+Coke which turned out to be pretty good. Or maybe I had just had too many of the others at that point...

Opened a new bottle of OGD114 last night after knocking my last bottle off a few days ago--great stuff! It went well with a nice bottle of Primator Dark Czech Lager and a bit of baseball on the tube.

After celebrating a couple family birthdays, I'm ending the day with a '74 Old Fitz Prime 86pf and a '71 AA 6 yr 86 pf. I have to say, both were superb pours. Sadly, the AA is gone.

Clearing out the bottom shelfers tonight: Enjoying some 1895 Old Forester , and finishing off my gallon jug of Very Very Old Fitz.

Just kidding. It's ORVW 10/107 in the glass while I watch my Colts play no defense while the Redskins return the favor.

Last night Amy and I were in Chi-town for a Binny's run. Tasted some Hudson Baby Bourbon, Hudson 4 Grain Bourbon, 1970s AA, Vintage 23, and the 4R SBBS OESF and OBSF all from Joe's Shopping Cart o'bliss.

We later went to Delilah's where I had a Rendezvous Rye, then we finished the evening hanging out with T Comp. He brought some Old Fitz BiB (dsp 16), Old Fitz 101, UD era Dant BiB, and a 16 y/o BiB I can't remember the name of. We finished the evening with a little sip of Bourye from a bottle we split. It was a great time! Thanks again for hanging out with us Thad.

I just noticed from a note by silverfish that thw 2011 World Whisky Awards from Jim Murray's Whisky Bible were announced and that Evan Williams 23 year old won for 18 and over. I bought a bottle at Heaven Hill a month ago then heard that it is only sold overseas. Is this true? I also got a note from Angel's Envy that their new release will be available "before the first of the year." Didn't quite make 10.10.10. Waiting builds excitement, though. Finally, I am still patiently (?) waiting for Buffalo Trace to issue two of its Antique selections this year -- Eagle 17 and W L Weller barrel proof. Fall is a busy time.

Yes, Yes, Yes,...I know it's early but I am having a short sniff and sip of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit 2001 pewter top.

I'm kicking off my first day of Autumn vacation.

I came back this afternoon from a 3-day visit to my sons in Gothenburg. Alongside bunches of other good drinks we finished a bottle of Weller 12 that I brought. We all liked it a lot and I thought it was much better than the last bottle I had of this brand. The nose was outstanding but all row very good in the other senses as well it lacks a little texture and concentration (proof) in the taste and finish.

Today back home I had Dickel 12 before dinner and OGD 114 after.

ER10. Lots of fruit, nuts and toffee on the nose and oaky dryness on the palate. It's been quite a while since I paid this one a visit.

I hope the local LCB does a bourbon sale again this Autumn. I believe this 1.75L was around $35 then. I have no idea why it took me this long to get around to opening it. Then again, I think I went through a half dozen or so last year, this was the straggler.

I've always been more of a Goodyear man myself, but to each their own.

Tonight I'm spending time with a couple new friends: Whistle Pig and 4R SmB LE. They're both really nice whiskies. Really really nice.

I have been listening to people's opinion on young whyskey for a while now and I've tried a few.

I always conclude that it's a waste of time.

That is until today. I opened up a bottle of Willett today.

Here's the stats;

Willett Estate Bottled Single Barrel Bourbon

4 Years Old

125.4 Proof

Barrel No: 2

Rick: 54

Warehouse: B

Distilled: May 21, 2003

Bottle No 125 of 216

Toddy's & Doug's Selection

Fall Festival 2007

It doesn't have that offensive youngness on the nose, it's quite mellow and tame. If anything it has a combination corn & rye whiskey aroma to it. No wood, at first that was a let down to me but after a little time I appreciate that for a change.

The entry taste always comes fast for me no matter what I am drinking and upon entry I come to conclusions that are if not right or if not wrong is way way to early.

Same with this guy, I let it roll in and there it is again, corn/rye but like I said that's not a bad thing, (but doesn't the label say bourbon?), again not an offensive youngster, no not at all.

OK, here's what seals the deal, it is a mouthful. Let it roll on your tounge and it gets thick and fills up your mouth.

Nice whiskey!

Finish? Not the best but not the worst by a looong shot, just enough.

Ryed bourbons can't take long aging as well as wheaters but I sure would like to have tasted this whiskey at 18 years old, I'd bet it would have been a classic.

I'm enjoying a glass of Sazerac right now. I hadn't had this in a long while. I'll have to keep this in mind more often.
